Some Gottliebs require 44's if there is a resistor in the circuit.
Examples: Ship Ahoy for WOW and Spinner indicator and Orbit Special indicator behind Vari-target.
Replacing a 44 with a 47 changes the resistance in the circuit causing excessive voltage and very short bulb life.
Large ceramic resistor attached to socket or nearby will indicate need for 44's

I changed the value of the resistor to lower the voltage. Even with a stock 44 bulb they run at 7.5 volts which is a bit much. I think I swapped out to 100k or 125k (I forget off hand but have a bag of them in the garage if anyone wants one) and ended up at 5.5v with a 44 which works fine.
LED lasts for... 30 seconds. poof!
