It has occurred to me that the music themed pinball machines made in the last ten years have covered every decade from the later part of the 20th century. From Elvis in the 50s all the way up to Metallica representing the 80s and early 90s. It is also apparent that music from the 21st century is at least a few decades away from being integrated into a pinball machine.

So that leaves the big band era of the 40s as prime pickings for the next music pinball theme. Benny Goodman and his orchestra are a no brainer as far as I'm concerned because they were probably the biggest band of their time. Thoughts?

I actually enjoy the 40's on 4 Sirius XM channel. My kids....not so much.

Strictly from the manufacturer's point of view, if the objective of the theme is to sell enough units to make a reasonable profit, then the answer, unfortunately in 2015, is none of them.

A shenanigans of Gene Krupa mode would be a must.

Buddy Rich? Only he wasn't limited to the 40's.

No, but most of the bands mentioned aren't either. They were for the most part at their peek in the 1940's.

Carter Family would be my pick. Under 8k msrp though, I'm not paying 9k for a Carter Family pin.

    Count Basie

    Benny Goodman!

But just think how much profit it would make once out on route.

This was my thought as well. Visually, Cab had it going on with his Zoot Suits and pizazz.

The songs are catchy enough to fit into a theme.

I am not sure what era he is from but Frank Sinatra would be an interesting choice

With the movies he did there would be some interesting callouts

Ok this thread is now worse than KISS. Just my opinion.

    Loosely related.....

I still think a great pin would be a Lawrence Welk pin that actually shot bubbles out while you played it. Might just be a great EM retheme idea.....

Nah.. EMs are fine just the way they are.

But theme-wise in the modern DMD music pinball machine world, Lawrence Welk is definitely not out of the question

Hank Locklin did a song in the 40s named Pinball Millionaire. I have it on a 78 in my Wurlitzer

I know it sounds silly....but some great Music exists from the 30's and 40's.
Sure, its not Metallica, but Id be willing to bet, that playing a pin with this music would grow on you...
Maybe like a fungus....but it would grow on you.

There are many Big Bands in the 30's and 40's.

Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Woody Herman, Cab Calloway, Glenn Miller, Woody Herman, Artie Shaw, Charlie Parker, just to name some of the more popular Band Leaders, and members of Big Bands from that era.

Odin, we could cut to the chase, and say what we really need a Brian Setzer Pin. With Brian Setzer would most likely agree to that, as he owns pinball machines.

    #30 8 years ago

Bing Crosby. He was beyond popular in his day and had one of the most amazing voices ever recorded.

    #31 8 years ago

    Spike jones.

    #32 8 years ago

Darcy knows what's up. Even though he skipped Monk

There were hundreds of great songs from the 40s that are standards that people still recognize today.

I'd say his greatness really shined in the late 50's.

    #35 8 years ago

How about a theme where you start in the 40's (Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Glenn Miller, etc) and work your way through the musical decades all the way to some current songs.

    #36 8 years ago

I'd love a one hit wonders 80's pin.

    #37 8 years ago

i hear this band rocked back then, but the drummer didn't get much credit...

I think the best band from the 40's for a pin would be Kiss.
