So I am new to pinball in the sense of wanting to become skilled, and I am hoping for some advice.

I just found out there are a couple places less than 20 mins away that have a number of tables. Among this list, where should I focus as a beginner? Are there any tables easier to practice basic skills/tricks? Any favorites in this list I should be sure to try? If you have a recommendation, any tips to share?

Also, does it make sense to play these virtually at all before approaching the machine so I get the hang of the goals, etc? I have a flipper controller spaced at the right width to play pinball sims.

Here is the list from thepinballlounge.com :

Oviedo Bowling Center
Aerosmith
Batman 66 The TV Series
The Addams Family
Medieval Madness
Ghostbusters
Bride of Pinbot
Star Trek (Stern)
Attack From Mars
Harlem Globetrotters
Funhouse
The Getaway (High Speed II)
Theater of Magic
Terminator 2
Black Hole
Indiana Jones The Pinball Adventure
Game of Thrones
Guardians of the Galaxy
Star Wars Premium (Stern)
Tron
Bram Stokers Dracula
Whitewater
Star Trek The Next Generation

The Winey Wench @ Seminole Towne Center Location
Star Wars Pro (Stern)
No Good Gofers
The Sopranos
Police Force
Who Dunnit
The Black Knight
Ripley's Believe it or Not
The Addams Family
Taxi
Mata Hari

Thanks,
Joel

Quoted from whthrs166:

I would suggest MM (because of it's staying power in a collection) but you really should go with a lower priced pin for your first game. STNG is a great starter great bang for the buck. Great artwork by Greg Feres, Awesome pf layout, Fun game all around. you can usually pick one up in good condition between $3500 and $4500.

Sounds like good advice. Yes I am not ready to shell out for a full in home machine yet, and even when I am I will probably start with a very low end unit - so as to preserve my marriage.

There is an old Williams Phoenix nearby in good working order for $700. That is probably more my speed to start!

Quoted from erak:

Hi. The key to any machine is learn the shots and the rules.
So play them all, and Google or YouTube the rules to study the best scoring strategy.
Virtual pinball is also fine for learning the rules. But it is not the same as real pinball. Also every real pinball machine plays just a little bit different.
You could have 2 of the same pins side by side and they won't be exactly the same. So you just gotta play them.

I didn't even think to YouTube the table but absolutely that makes sense. Probably I will youtube/google -> virtual -> real. Right now I am looking for advice on the first 2 or 3 machines to start/focus on. Hopefully I will eventually get to all of them!

Quoted from GLSP3022:

Terminator 2 is a great fundamental pinball machine. It has a lot of the "usuals" in pinball. Dual ramps, multiplier lanes, orbits, hurry up shot, video mode...etc.
And it's not as brutal as some games can be like Black Knight, and BoP.

I will definitely give T2 a try, I remember playing it when I was younger. Thanks for the recommendation.

play them all...and watch other people play...and there are many great resources - including the free app I created: Pinball Coach (available on Apple and Google Play stores) which includes TIPS for Beginners, short tutorial videos, and more. Hope you check it out and find it helpful!

Thanks in downloading it now will definitely check it out!
