I am working on restoring a Comet and need to replace some lettering. It seems that Futura is the font I need for the job, but alas, I do not have it as a font on my system. I am very cautious about downloading stuff for fear of screwing up my computer with a virus. Where are my fellow pinheads downloading fonts? Any trouble with the files?

Only trust fonts you pay for and buy from a reputable store.

You may be able to find it here

What do you need it for?
I have made score and instruction cards for Comet.
Any other cards or labels you need?

I've had good luck with this site, used it for various projects. I like how you can search by style too.

Dafont.com all free fonts and large database!

What do you need it for?l

    Playfield restoration.

    Quoted from Rappelbox:

Dafont.com all free fonts and large database!

Thanks for the suggestions. These seem like popular sources for lots of folks but when I checked them out a bit I found too many reports of embedded attacks in some (not all) font files. The free font sites seem like playing russian roulette. For this reason, I am choosing to avoid any of the free font sites. For me, paying for a font is worth knowing that it is safe (and not wasting a TON of valuable time dealing with restoring a computer in the event of an attack by malicious code).

I agree - looking for suggestions for a reputable store.

Send me an email and I'll send you the Futura files.
There is more than one font in the Futura family.

I see you ignored my suggestion. Blambot is a reputable online font store; but it looks like Inkochnito will sort out your request.

Sorry, didn't mean to ignore you. Somehow I didn't see your suggestion. Most have accidentally scrolled to fast. Thanks for the suggestion.

Actually its not a bad idea to create a proven font database specific to pinball and maybe post them with the info at ipdb or here even.

That's a great idea! Here's my first contribution:

Found a great Futura package for free:

still on the search for an equal helvetica site if anyone has a link for free files

I am working on a site that is dedicated to playfield art. I was thinking of including font identification as part of the metadata. This thread seems to support that idea.

FYI Futura is a typeface futura condensed extra bold is a font.

A font family is a group of related fonts. For example, Garamond is a typeface, with its own set of design features for letters and other character. That typeface has many fonts. It could be italic or bold and size 14 or 16 point. The collection of all these fonts is a font family.
