For you guys who built your own AFMs and MMs, etc. where did you buy all the different colored wires? I plan to use an existing harness but it won’t always work. I would like to keep the colors correct for future troubleshooting. Thanks.

FYI, if you're thinking about building your own AFM, you're probably looking at about $10k in parts, at the very least.

I did a preliminary spreadsheet a year or so ago for the parts that were available, plus some preliminary estimates for other stuff.

You'd probably be better off grabbing a remake or a decent original.

I am building a stargazer. Want to know where to get wire for my playfield when a wire from my donor harness is too short.

    Hey Seal
BAA has a pretty good assortment of colors in 10 ft lengths. You can also buy solid color wire from McMaster and stripe it yourself. Once in a while a good deal comes up on Ebay when you search under "pinball harness"

There are a few wire vendors who can do custom wire striping. However, there is sometimes a minimum length.

There have been a few threads posted about it.

I have not yet seen a good DIY approach that is perminent and long lasting. Markers and paint pens don't hold up too well.

    4customswire.Com looked like a possibility.

I remember seeing a few other suggestions in past threaads.

This is what I used to stripe wires for the MM that I built. Worked out OK. (rubber band keeps a little pressure on pen) Use fresh pens and let the wires dry for a few days before using.

BAA has what I need. At least for now.

Wally. Interesting contraption. I will keep it in mind if I can’t get what I need.
    Thank you all.
