Just wondering what is the best and least expensive way to add this RAM and where it buy.

Want to just plug and play and the RAM will only be used on each game and not taken out. TSPP, SP,LOTR,and RBION

Also do SAM games use them to eliminate the watch style battery.

Got mine from Pinitech and installed in my LOTR LE. No issues from day one. Don't think you will need on SAM games with the watch batteries. you have nice collection of games. How do you like RBION compared to your other Sterns?

Had it three years and it's definatly a keeper in my collection

6264 Battery Eliminating NVRAM for Sega, Data East, Stern, and WPC MPUs

    6264 NVRAM - FM1608 - Tested used pulls 1pc - $8 + $2 shipping

Ten pack is only 70 shipped.

FM1608 is plug and play in Stern Whitestar MPUs. Stern SAM system does not need NVRAM. The coin battery is safe and will last damn near forever.

Get the batteries off of the Whitestar MPUs for sure.

So what im saying what is the biggest difference between these

http://s10.postimg.org/vao2miti1/375828.jpg 8 bucks a each and would look factory on the board

    and these

http://www.pinballlife.com/images/products/anypin_dmd_nvram.jpg 20 bucks each and would look added

Any info would help. Please LMK

There is no difference as far as function.

They both will work exactly the same.

    Thank you

One other question as I have never used these before. It says about the internal clock not being set.... Does this mean every time I turn the games on its going to state date and time not set.

There are some games that have a Midnight Madness kind of mode where the actual time could be useful.

99% of games DON'T have this feature.

    These do:

    Congo
    Dirty Harry
    Johnny Mnemonic
    Junk Yard
    NBA Fastbreak
    Who Dunnit

As long as I dont get a bong and a message every time I start them up I think I just go with the 6264s

Of course that's absolutely not true.

anyPin DMD+ works as either a 6264 OR a 6116. The other of course does not.

    Thank you Rob

I only need these for three whitestar boards. So I most likely will just go with the chips if there is no difference in performance

    Thanks Allen

What's the P and the PG stand for at the end of FM1608-120-P FM1608-120-PG? I've seen pics with both and was wondering what's the difference and if it matters.

The "P" is for a 28-pin plastic DIP. The "G" in "PG" indicates 28-pin "Green" DIP for "Green"/RoHS Packaging. Part numbers like that are usually explained in their datasheets. http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/82469.pdf

Here is another FM1608 hint you can pickup from the imprint on the IC itself. The letter at the beginning of the date code indicate chip revision number. You want revision M for the most part. REV M has the best write endurance (trillion+), best time between power ups(45 years), and will work at lower voltages (read the "brown out" info in the early data sheets).

The data sheet hints at any date code past 0435 is revision M, but i have seen revision M chips before 0435. It must be ALL FM1608 past that date are the latest revision. 98% of my used pulls are rev M. I have noticed an issue with WMS system 6-7 games if you power cycle many times quickly on earlier date code/revision FM1608, you can scramble the RAM contents. It only seems to effect WMS 6-7, but i still don't send any revision below M since the endurance increased by a factor of 10 at revision M. I have been putting all the oldest RAMs in my games at home and there has been no problems.

Something to consider if you are buying remarks, you might be getting the earliest date codes and not know it.

Just add "once installed" to the beginning of both sentences. Problem solved

If I were in the market for 6264, I would just go with the DIP RAMTRON parts at this stage of the game. The price is hard to beat. If you need a bunch of them it will be cheaper to build your own with SOIC FRAMs and SOIC->DIP adapter. There are a bunch of options for 6116 and 5101. I also sell these, but with the number of people competing for the small market, I end up giving away more to friends and SPM than I sell.

I started a thread on some Ramtron NVRAM I purchased from EBAY (~$6/chip): https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/nvram-experience

I've installed them in a whitestar, WPC, and a sega with no problems.
