I have a bit of a feeling that beta testers on this code reported back an "X-men Christmas Eve Release" debacle and Lonnie (and probably Lyman) have been busting butt to get areas fixed for this release.

This is the most likely scenario in my mind.

Quoted from Trekkie1978:

I wasn't around for that X-Men debacle...can you fill me in on what exactly happened?
If I had to guess, Lonnie released broken code...what a shocker.

It's buried within the "Where is the X-Men Code..." thread from a few years back. Shouldn't be hard to find.

Basically, the game went from being incomplete to a totally different animal with new annoying features and half baked modes. I do think that the Wolverine audio clip was part of this. All I remember was opening Pinside that Christmas Eve morning and feeling really sorry for people who owned X-men. People were fuming and reverting back to the old code after a long multi-month wait.

The good news is that it was eventually ironed out, but the damage was done to the title for multiple years. Now, I think X-men is a great game, but for years it was Stern's "Fredo".

Stern is keeping this code launch closer to their chest. I'm telling you, everyone at Stern walked out of a meeting three weeks ago with the marketing team being told to start teasing the code and the programming team sharing code with very locked down beta sites.

The marketing team started posting Facebook pictures and people started getting excited.

THEN, the reports started coming in. Code is blah....game is unbalanced....annoying callouts....etc.

Now, the marketing team is bearing the brunt and the programming staff is working their butts off to get it right.

I have confidence in Stern. This scenario is what I think is happening.

Tonight is the night! Wait....

Stern is the smartest company in existence. They take 5k+ for incomplete products all day and all night and they have an army of defenders. Pretty awesome business is plan.

Anyone hear an update on this at Expo?

Quoted from vireland:

Word. Get a Batman '66 for some perspective on "unfinished."

That game is a disaster. Even the most vocal proponent on Pinside of BM66 get a 15k turd with missing screws, a broken lazy susan, and non-working flippers. KISS's code is 10x more developed then BM66 from what I am seeing.

Could you imagine taking delivery of a brand new Chevy Cruz (a couple thousand more than BM66 SLE with discounts) and having to connect the exhaust, find a place for missing fasteners and troubleshoot why it won't start?

Quoted from Trekkie1978:

KISS might be "better" code wise right now, but Lyman definitely is hard at work on the Batman code.
Batman has seen 2 updates in January.
KISS was announced May 2015. It's first update should've been the launch code. Then we had the April 2016 update.

I agree, but in a "triage" situation, BM66 is "bleeding" the most right now....

Stern, get this KISS final release right. Do something with the cities.
