Looking for the place to buy high quality chip sockets at the most reasonable prices. I literally have no idea where to go. I am looking for Williams 4 - 6 and 1981 stern and Williams 1986 and Premier 1986.

    Tayda

I’ve bought some chip sockets from Tayda, and I must say, I’m not impressed. I’m careful when I solder them in, but I often get pins that kind of “unspring” in them...or perhaps it’s more of an “overspring”...
Either way, they kinda sucked. Yeah, they were cheap, but I won’t be buying any more sockets of that type from Tayda.

    never had a problem

The ones Tayda sells are comparable to ADAM TECH you can get from USA sellers. Not super high quality but I generally have no problems with them. Used thousands and thousands of them on the boards i build.

Only time they are an issue is on skunked out used solder pull chips. The roughness on a chip leg can have hook effect on a twin leaf contact and rip it out... but its hard to blame that on the socket. You would have a bad time trying to put that kind of chip into a machine pin socket too. New chips go in and out many times with out issue.

    Interesting.

If you solder in any socket at too high a temp you will have problems. Low heat=no problems.

Machine pin sockets are only the best solution for new chips, and even then I think the dual wipers are better.

I've purchased mine from Marco and from Digi Key. No complaints.
