The games with the drop-down animation unit such as the two already mentioned, along with "King of Diamonds"/"Diamond Jack" and some others (I believe "Happy Clown" and other four players) have this outboard plate for the Jones connectors.
The reason for this is that there's simply not enough space on the lightbox insert for mounting the female connectors, due to all the required components.
