I've played 2 different LCD backbox games and neither is more fun than the 40 other games I have at home.

    Quoted from ccotenj:

y'know, are operators really stern's main customers anymore?

    Yes, they still are.

How many pins can the AVERAGE person fit in their home? 2 maybe 6?

Stern would quickly be out of business if they put all their eggs in the home market.

Half of all Stern's games go overseas.

    #77 10 years ago

    Stern might never change over.

You guys keep buying Metallica, AC/DC, Star Trek, X-Men, Avengers......Gary says sales are up bigtime.

One game every 4 years from JJP is not going to pressure Stern into LCD.

My GF says that last Friday, Startrek was 15 people deep, Metallica was 4 deep and wedged between them was WOZ with no one playing (it was actually up and running, though).

    #82 10 years ago
    Quoted from Mantra:

Is JJP planning only 1 game every four years?

I know many people who STILL don't have their fully paid WOZ yet.

What they plan and what gets done are often two very different things.

    Quoted from Mantra:

No one playing WoZ... hmmm I guess that's different then I have heard from other operators... either way I find it funny people will wait in line but not walk up to a open new machine with a full LCD with full HD movies.

Star Trek was the Belle of the Ball Friday night.

People flock to the new and shiny (and Star Trek is VERY bright and shiny, it makes the other games around it look like mud).

    #128 10 years ago
    Quoted from cichlid:

Their bank is full of cash because you guys keep buying all those games.

    Exactly.

If the Operators and collectors stopped buying 1000s of every title, then Stern would have to take action.

Right now Stern is sitting on a goldmine, and wait until you guys see the next title........

    Quoted from cal50:

Once the cost of gas plasma displays keeps climbing or a supplier drops manufacture & availability then Stern would likely source a replacement.

Those LED replacements are already available to replace plasma, as Europe does not allow those non RoHS displays.

    Quoted from Aussiepinwiz:

As more Pinsiders take part in the poll the percentage of those who don't think we will be seeing a Stern LCD anytime soon is increasing.

Generally, people get smarter as time goes by.

    Quoted from tbanthony:

Bleh, I can hope they eliminate the Alice Eve DMD image used for the match score free game and just go with a shot of the Enterprise going into warp or shooting something. The DMD image is so bad that it's embarrassing awful.

I laughed when I saw it.

I love that campy kind of thing.

    #154 10 years ago
    Quoted from statsdoc:

    Great audio ... no.

Yes, the audio is perfect for the theme.

But the main thing Star Trek is, is fun!

    #156 10 years ago
    Quoted from StevenP:

and realize that a pin doesn't have to be super-duper fast to be fun....

It's a Ritchie game, it's going to be fast.

    #159 10 years ago
    Quoted from StevenP:

Yeah, but not every game has to be faster than the last released title. At least for me.

So you should avoid Ritchie games, because his claim to fame is FAST.

But there are plenty of slow and slower games to choose from .

It's Pinball, something out there for everybody.

    #185 10 years ago

I say just go back to the sys6 displays.

I can see what ball I'm on at all times, and what my opponent's scores are at all times.

I really don't need any stupid animations or video modes at all when I play pinball.

    #214 10 years ago
    Quoted from PinballHelp:

Why should Stern install an LCD? As long as they sell out all their LEs with 30-year-old technology and everybody always says their current game is the best ever, there's no motivation to innovate.

Stern does not want to look like they are copying, following, or reacting to JJP.

Ain't gona happen any time soon.

    #218 10 years ago
    Quoted from Aussiepinwiz:

But when will the LCD appear, if ever?

    It may never appear.

Or maybe Stern will wait a few years until the patent on P2000 expires and leapfrog over JJP.

    #226 10 years ago
    Quoted from PinballHelp:

The first Stern solid state games were reverse-engineered Bally systems.

Bally licensed the system to Stern so that they would have more operators familiar with it.

This gave them a little extra clout against Gotlieb and Williams.

    #228 10 years ago
    Quoted from cichlid:

I thought Jack said he patented the LCD backbox?

Well, if Jack has a Patent pending on it, then you know Stern is never going to bother with it.

    #264 10 years ago

JJP might not have patented "LCD Backglass", but might have applied for a patent for just one part of the system that could keep Stern tied up in court for years.

Just like cell phones makers keep battling over touch screen menus .

    #267 10 years ago
    Quoted from Part_3:

Essentially, both on a DMD and an LCD, you receive feedback to what is occurring on the playfield. Scoring, modes, etc..the difference between the two is the quality of the screen. That, my friends, is not something you can patent.

Tell that to the cell phone people, LOL.

    Quoted from gearheaddropping:

to make room for a game called WOZ that might be delivered to my room at the American House someday.

Don't feel like you are alone in that.

None of my clients or friends have got their WOZ that they paid for 3 years ago either.

If you shorten the legs for wheelchair use, it could be an easily recognized theme at American House.

    #314 10 years ago
    Quoted from Aussiepinwiz:

3 years! What reason have they been offered for the delay?

    images-7-97.jpeg 5 KB

JJP has been making regular WOZ to sell, rather than finishing the WOZLE that are paid for.

I understand that is the only way they can remain in business, but it still sucks for everyone waiting for their WOZLE.

    #316 10 years ago
    Quoted from HighNoon:

Neither of these statements are true.

    Totally true.

I can right now go and buy a regular WOZ at the distributor, in stock.

My friends who paid for their WOZLE 3 years ago, have not received their games.
