It has been amazing to read the several hundred posts about the new Start Trek machine over the last 3 weeks. What a huge contrast in opinion!

Perhaps the most anticipated machine in many years has seen overwhelming:
    1. Positive reviews from those that have played the Pro
    2. Negative comments about the LE price
    3. Expressions of disappointment from dashed expectations that the machine won't be Stern's first with a LCD.

Let's talk Stern & LCD. My mail is that Stern won't have a LCD on a machine for some time to come.
When do you think that will be?
I'm guessing 2015 with Star Wars: Episode VII.

Comments and opinions on the Poll are welcome:
When do you think Stern will launch a LCD model?
What theme will the machine have?

LOL OP, you must have posted this on your phone and thought it wasn't uploading and kept hitting send. Duplicates are still rolling in. No worries, gives me something to do here and its a slow night.

Sorry. Actually I was trying to upload it on my computer, and I kept getting error messages like "Slow down", and "You need to post some content". Thanks for sorting it out.

I play the machine, not an LCD screen.
(Do not care about a TV monitor on my machine)

    YMMV.

Agreed. Isn't it amazing though that so many people posted their ST LE cancellations on Pinside simply because the first photo showed no LCD?

Over 40% of those who have taken part in the poll so far think Stern won't release an LCD until at least 2016!

Keep those votes coming in ...

You forgot Mad Max 4:Fury Road 2014

Ah yes! The movie that's been delayed for several years because the decade-long drought broke in Australia 3 years ago, and the Outback has been too green to be the backdrop of a MM movie, and so filming had to be done in ... Namibia!

Here are some poll & post results, in summary:

    • 40% if Pinsiders polled indicated they don't expect to see a Stern LCD anytime soon, if ever
    • 1/3 indicated they think an LCD model will come out next year
    • Some live in hope that an LCD screen will make pinball more attractive to kids in arcades
    • Others think LCD screen won't expand the market
    • There is a strong theme that Stern needs to innovate or die
    • There is an equally strong theme that for the time being, while Stern machines keep selling, despite JJ's appearance, there is no business sense to outlay money to develop LCD machines

    3 more questions:

    1. Anyone pick up any other strong themes/results from this thread?

    2. Anybody changed their tune about LCDs on Stern machines after following this thread?

    3. What do you think Gary Stern will do after reading this thread?

I've added one more significant poll observation I missed earlier.

    • 40% if Pinsiders polled indicated they don't expect to see a Stern LCD anytime soon, if ever
    • A significant 15% say never!

    2. Anybody changed their tune about LCDs on Stern machines after following this thread?

    3. What do you think Gary Stern will do after reading this thread?

    Interesting.
As more Pinsiders take part in the poll the percentage of those who don't think we will be seeing a Stern LCD anytime soon is increasing.
Although most (55%) still think an LCD is coming within the next 2 years.

    #171 10 years ago

    The votes keep rolling in.

45% of Pinsiders still think an LCD is many years away for Stern.

But in a surprising development, the number of Pinsiders that think Stern will surprise us with an LCD for Star Trek, almost doubled in the last 24 hours!

I'm not anti-LCD, but the poll question is "When will Stern..." so I'm being realistic about that question and looking at the answer from their perspective.

Well done for sticking to the topic!

    Vote update:

    195 votes.

46% now say no LCD from Stern in the near future.

With PInball Expo just a few days away, do the 7 Pinsiders who voted for an LCD screen announcement for Star Trek LE still think that will happen this week?

OK. 4% of Pinsiders polled thought the LCD screen would come with the ST LE machine.
    They clearly got that wrong.
But when will the LCD appear, if ever?

The next machine? I don't think so. Anyone think so.
The machine after. I don't think so again.
    Any alternate views.

I think Superman at the earliest.

If JJ doesn't survive past 2014/15 will it come in this decade?

    #260 10 years ago

What if Stern NEVER does LCD and goes straight to LED screen in, say, 2016 for the Michael Jackson "Thriller" pin?

None of my clients or friends have got their WOZ that they paid for 3 years ago either.

3 years! What reason have they been offered for the delay?

29% of Pinsiders polled so far say the LCD is coming in 2014!

    Do you agree?

If so, what theme will the machine have?

    Will Mustang have an LCD?
    Probably not!

Anyone happy to speculate which Stern pinnie will be the first with an LCD?

    Superman in 2014?

    Queen in 2015?

    Star Wars in 2016?

    X in Y?
