It's really simple, and does not require dissing anyone's groove:
Music that has stood the test of time makes for better mass appeal than new music that turns off a majority of pinballers.
If any of this pablum that passes for popular music today manages to stand said test, then maybe those artists will be reasonable candidates for pins... in 2050! But then there will be even newer music, of course, for future whippersnappers to complain about being passed over.
