So I have an old Sharp Shooter 2 that is trashed. (I only have the playfield, so all art on the cabinet/backbox will be new.) There is a good amount of wear on the playfield. If doing a retheme/upgrade, do people typically sand off the old art and add mylar art over an existing playfield, rough up the old playfield and primer, and then apply mylar.

I really have no idea how this is done. Does anybody have any of their favorite websites on how it was done before. I know Charlie from Spooky did the whole Godzilla from FP2. The Matrix guys went from JM to Matrix, etc. I've done touchups before, but this is much more significant. Could anybody respond with a couple links of how others have attacked the problem. I'm not looking to change the layout at all except for the art.

Thanks in advance!

I'm wondering the same thing. I was thinking I might use a large decal and mylar over that. But...what material, printing method, etc. IDK.

Have no idea what others are doing, and I've got PLENTY of time before I'm ready for that part.

I've done a couple of re-themes of EMs I've sanded it down to bare wood (take your time, don't rush), and then I painted the new theme on by airbrushing, heavily using masking, and then used water slide decals to add the more detailed art and lettering. I then clear coated with varathane. Not saying this is the way to do. Certainly using an overlay allows for better art, but I felt that to give it an EM feel, it should be painted on in an EM style.

If you want to go the overlay route, you may want to contact http://www.greatpinball.com/ they will print custom overlays.
