Quoted from vid1900:There are only a few titles you will ever get your money back on - so only restore what you REALLY love and will NEVER sell
-
There was a guy at work trying to sell a rusty Ford Escort on the bulletin board for $2000.
I asked him if he was crazy, and he said "I just had to replace the trans for $1600!"
I said "Yeah, you don't ever get that money back...."
My advice.
1) Listen to vid1900 before most others here.
2) Fix it to a good working example (beaters can still play great). If you decide you must keep it for the long term, make it what you want! I had a friend who put a new PF in a machine once and it was a dog after being all shiny and new. It just did not play like it did when it looked beat. I have much love for a few of my games, but won't do full restores due to the fact that they may not play as perfect when done. Dimpling could be off a bit etc......
I am more of a player though! I love the opertunity to get one with beat cabinet. I say this because I get it cheaper and I don't play the cab.
3) I had to have some lessons beat into me on how much to put in a machine. A good example is the $1200 ish into a Game Plan Sharp Shooter that I hope to sell for $600 at the Allentown show!
