    HAPPY NEW YEAR PINHEADS!

Well folks, another year has passed and it was an active one for me in this wonderful hobby!

I really enjoy reading what everyone’s year in the hobby looked like and I like sharing mine! Purchases, restorations, shows attended...tell me all about it!

2017 ended with a bang as I added TFTC and Pharaoh to my lineup in December. Then 2018 rolled in and things slowed down BUT in April things sped up in a big way...and didn’t stop until December 28 with the addition of Earthshaker.

Welcome to the family in 2018:
    BSD
    JM
    Gottlieb Rock
    T2
    Road Kings
    Volley
    BK2K
    Seawitch
    Elektra
    Earthshaker

Gone but not forgotten in 2018:
    Williams Joust head-2-head
    Rock
    Road Show
    F-14 Tomcat

In between game hunts, Fish Tales and Taxi were shopped in addition to my new acquisitions. I also met some great people and made spent countless hours chatting with awesome friends! Guys like jake35 , Dee-Bow , 1979wade , Malibu-SS , Bay78 and my dad were a big part of my 2018 pinball experience.

I have a feeling 2019 will be a little slower...my wife loves pinball as do my daughters BUT I think this year they’d appreciate NOT having the basement full of projects and play more of what we have.

I wish you all the best in the New Year and as always, a big THANK YOU to the Pinside community for your endless wealth of knowledge!

Whoops!! Good catch!! Usually it works the other way around where it takes me until mid-February to stop thinking it’s the previous year but I totally went backwards on the title! Lol

    Out:
    Aero Pro

    Shows:
    Louisville expo
    Pincincinatti

    Highlights:
    Meeting Charlie from Spooky
Playing lots of games with my kids
Always asking the guy(s) behind me to play multiplayer games st shows. Met some great folks that way.
    Getting an Escalera (thanks Dad!)
Helping set up at Louisville expo
Restoring a Close Encounters and setting it up for my friend's special needs daughter

    Lessons learned:
Only mod the games that are gonna stay(at least for a while).
A game that is a blast to play with friends on location is not always the best game to play solo at home...and that doesn't make them bad games.
Buy and play what you like. At the end of the day, the only opinions that matter in my basement are my family's.

Sounds like an amazing year for you Crile1 !!! Thanks for sharing and have an awesome 2019!!

    #6 5 years ago

2018 was an inactive year, bought nothing. Paid off credit card! What a great feeling that is.

    #7 5 years ago

What a great feeling that is for sure, Electrocute !! Keep that balance at zero and have a wonderful 2019!

    #8 5 years ago

2018 == How the hell did I end up with so many games here, and how am I going to fit in the next!

It is a strange feeling to be pulling games I like out of my lineup. But it’s the impact of my space issues. To make it worse, I just swapped some games, so of course, those need to be set up and playable. I have 3 games not even on legs, and I feel trapped when I try to move games around. That’s 2018. Need to solve it in 2019.

    #9 5 years ago

2018 = falling in love all over again with Hobbit and the new code. That game is bolted to the floor...just amazing! Repairing and upgrading my Star Wars Data East with all the bells and whistles. Buying and selling a handful of machines. Going into 2019 with a pocket full of "pinball cash" and totally unsure what to buy but really itching for something new...might wait to see what Deep Root has to offer or what Stern does after Munsters. Get a GOTG or Deadpool in the meantime? decisions!!!

    My 2018:

Bought: Fathom, Stern Stars, DPLE, and DE JP.

    Sold: Hobbit

Also now remodeled some of my basement so I have room for more games in 2019.

For us it was selling off pretty much all of our "project stash" as well as over 1/2 the collection and getting ready for some other adventures away from the pinball hobby. We will still be active with the hobby just not on the scale we have been over the past 10 years or so. I gave up keeping track but at best guess over 60 machines sold and gone this year alone. Collection is down to about a dozen machines and "project stash" is down to just a couple. It actually feels really good to have some space back!

    #13 5 years ago

We had a very active 2018, starting the year with 6 machines and ending with 11, which is far more than we ever imagined owning!

    - Purchased 8 machines: Sky Jump, High Roller Casino, Diner, World Cup (1978), Johnny Mnemonic, Demolition Man, Getaway, Taxi.
    - Sold 3 machines: High Roller Casino, Lights Camera Action, Viper Night Drivin.
    - Attended 2 Ann Arbor Pinball Museum events-love that place!
    - Played in a League for the full year.

But, the best thing of 2018, was meeting a lot of great people in this hobby. Of all the hobbies we’ve been involved over the years, this one has the friendliest and most helpful enthusiasts we’ve encountered!!

Looking forward to more great pinball experiences in 2019, and maybe even improving my skills!!!

TL;DR - I had a thorough year. Added 4 games, completed my AFM PF swap in 12 days, and enjoying the hobby with my family.

    LONG POST INCOMING:

This was by far the most active year I have had since early 2016. I got through my divorce alimony-free, completed a deed-in-lieu of foreclosure, made a military move from WP AFB to Eglin AFB (new location and new job), and paid off my credit card all in a year's time (2017). That being said, 2018 was a boom year for pinball as all that crap was done, and my fiancee and I have had a complete and total blast enjoying it together.

Machines sold: NONE. They're way too expensive now. Heck with that.

    Machines added:

CFTBL (30 Dec 17, yeah it was last year, close enough):

    20171230_111543 (resized).jpg20171230_111543 (resized).jpg

    Highlights:

Sharing my love of pinball with my family and seeing both future Mrs. and my stepson take to them as well as guests that came over.

    20180604_191009 (resized).jpg20180604_191009 (resized).jpg

Sharing my GotPro with my military family and seeing grown men become children again:

    20181116_133551 (resized).jpg20181116_133551 (resized).jpg

Teaching my 5 year old stepson the repair and assembly basics:

Watching my stepson playing and slowly learning the pinball playing basics:

Finally making the trek to TPF, and we are already planning on coming back for 2019!

Watching my girl enjoy Transformers at TPF....

    20180318_134853 (resized).jpg20180318_134853 (resized).jpg

and buying it 9 months later, knowing I made the right purchase over The Shadow:

And finally, completing my AFM PF swap. Took me 12 total days to do. I'd guess 40-50 hours total. Had to get rid of all that awful air captured between the clearcoat and the inserts : ( !!

    20181208_155039 (resized).jpg20181208_155039 (resized).jpg20181208_154950 (resized).jpg20181208_154950 (resized).jpg20181208_143129 (resized).jpg20181208_143129 (resized).jpg20181230_003852 (resized).jpg20181230_003852 (resized).jpg

So, what's next for us? Well, TPF 2019 is a given. We are looking at Pinburgh as well. I'll prolly come solo on that one first, and then the whole family in 2020. I also look to come to Pincinnati this year, which man, that show looks rocking.

As far as games to add: definitely MBr CE. We have room for about 3 more, so got to make them count!

That's it for now. See everyone here next year!

2018 was a busy Pinball year for me. I bought 14 pins and sold 8. I ended up buying 13 of them from a retired operator which pretty exciting as that kind of deal doesn’t happen in Manitoba very often.

Had a wonderful 2018, with my highlight being the road trip to Manitoba Canada with my dad and son, to meet @erico201 and pick up his Joust. Great family who really made us feel welcome, and while some probably thought I was nuts to go to Winnipeg from TN to get a machine, the memories with my dad and son were worth it! Also went to the Tx Pinball festival, which was awesome and already booked for 2019.

    Sold

    Apollo 13
    Goldeneye
    Time Machine
    T3

    Acquired

    Joust

I slowed down a little this year. 2017 was a whirlwind as I took about a dozen pins off route and sold them all. So, 2018 was more reasonable. Yet it was busy enough.

    SFGE 2018 was a blast.

    Thinned out of the herd:

    Meteor
    Stars

    Added to the herd:
    Williams Skill Pool
    SMDM
    Kings of Steel

    Happy New Year!!

I bought a Neato robotic vacuum for the gameroom. Best purchase of 2018.

I downsized more in 2018, ACDC and Abra Ca Dabra out, TNA the only game in. Alien came in and went out so fast it hardly counted. For 2019 I'm probably downsizing again, haven't decided if I'm going with 3 or 2 pins for the collection. Leaning towards 2, because I'd like the space back for different toys, or more like tools, which are really just toys in the end. Still working out exactly how to fit things, so we'll see. Some of the tools/toys I want to acquire are on the large side.

I love all my remaining games, won't be easy to decide what to keep. Shadow is probably the only real anchor, not only a great game, but it's what got me started playing with mods. And frankly it's worth the least out of my collection, and any games I sell will help fund the workshop, so that's a factor to keep in mind.

The goal for 2019 is to get back into being creative and doing fun projects again. Hopefully that means new mods, see what I end up doing. I think right now I'm more interested in creating things for games than actually playing them.

2018 was a year of shaking up my collection, especially if I can stretch it by a few days. Going into Dec. 2017 my collection was Jurassic Park, Congo, The Shadow, Bram Stokers Dracula, Hardbody, and Gold Strike. In late Dec., I sold Jurassic Park and bought a Fish Tales. Next my wife bought me a Total Nuclear Annihilation for my birthday in May. To make room for that I sold off Bram Stoker's Dracula. I think it was about a month later when I sold Fish Tales to a good friend to bring in a Metallica (Premium). Then just a few weeks ago, I sold my Congo to make room for a Star Trek: The Next Generation. I also started working on retheming Hardbody to Pandemic (Board Game). My number one pinball goal for 2019 will be to finish up the retheme.

    2018 was a big year

Sold space odyssey, and Atari roadblasters.

Bought bsd, ap, strikes n spares, 1943 arcade

Attended mgc and expo, got to finally meet Todd Tuckey in person!

Met lots and lots of great pinsiders all over, played WAY more pinball, prob more than life combined-seriously, a lot.

For a year I thought I wouldn’t spend much, I spent half my salary on my arcade this year. Lots of bling from framed backglass art to signs to a dmd clock.

    Fun year.
