Quoted from Atari_Daze:Homemade ice rink?
Yup. It’s frozen about 4” down so far. Should be able to skate in the morning.
Quoted from Only_Pinball:You need one of these.[quoted image]
I just used buckets last year and a big push broom. I think I’ll have to make something now though, I went a little bigger with the rink.
First skate today. Thinnest spot is probably 6”. Deepest maybe a foot.

If a no travel advised warning had been issued before the game I'm sure they would postpone it. If it started snowing right before the game or during I'm sure they would have had it. It's not really about the game, it's about the safety of the people trying to get to the game.
Quoted from pinwiztom:You guys from Canada
this is obviously nothing new
as I am sure you see -20' to -40' C/F
all the time.
The caveat just might be how long the cold snap lasts
that might be concerning or record breaking.
Not from Canada but close. This cold snap was a bit weird because we have had a mild winter so far and then BOOM. It has also been very windy and humid. Even if it's +20F 85% humidity and a bit of wind makes it unbearable.
Quoted from pinwiztom:what did you catch?
Quoted from pinwiztom:And don't tell me a cold
Hah! Yellow perch today and a few tiny walleye. Last time we went we limited out on walleye but today we couldn’t trick them into biting.
Quoted from pinwiztom:How thick does the ice have to be
to feel safe enough to drive a SUV out there?
Dumb questions from a former South Dakotan
(via Aberdeen, Hoven, Bowdle, Bristol and Mitchell)
Some people drive on 10-12” but I usually wait til its about 15”. I hate when full sized trucks drive by the house when its 10” and they get waves going.
