    Quoted from Bryan_Kelly:

    From google.
The Three Dog Night Story, 1964–1975 states that vocalist Danny Hutton's girlfriend, actress June Fairchild (best known as the "Ajax Lady" from the Cheech and Chong movie Up In Smoke) suggested the name after reading a magazine article about indigenous Australians, in which it was explained that on cold nights they would customarily sleep in a hole in the ground while embracing a dingo (wild dog). On colder nights they would sleep with two dogs and, if the night was freezing, it was a "three dog night".

    Yes!

    #102 6 years ago
    Quoted from jamesmc:

For the OP. 76 at tee time. So what's the deal with 3 dog nights name? Back around 1990 the PGA tour was playing Tucson National C.C. and 3 Dog Night was playing there. I thought that was funny, sad, and weird at the same time. An Indian casino would have been a big jump from that.

Yeah, no golf here except on the XBox. I'm thinking 72 holes at Royal County Down today!

    #103 6 years ago
    Quoted from fiberdude120:

Depending on how cold it was would determine how many dogs to sleep with to stay warm.

    Correct!

    #104 6 years ago
    Quoted from ImNotNorm:

I'll wait until the afternoon to walk the dogs. When it's the "warmest" part of the day.
I didnt bother with the celcius-Fahrenheit conversion lol

At those temps, you barely need to! Isn't -39 where F and C are the same?

    #106 6 years ago

we would never have a white christmas in the Newcastle area of Aus - 42deg C / 107.6 fahr the day before Christmas and today overcast, rain and 30 deg c / 86 fahr

    #107 6 years ago

It is 41 F in Raleigh, right now. I had to wait until the end of year to get some decently cold weather, which is what I prefer.

    I thought it was -40....

    Quoted from lancestorm:

I think they insulate the pipes and bury them far enough underground so the frost can't get to them. But sometime the older neighbourhood's in the city will have a pipe burst due to the cold weather.

My heart goes out to all of you in Polar Bear weather. After living on the shores of Lake Ontario in Oswego, NY, and having to dig my car out of 6 foot snow drifts, I decided to apply for jobs in Florida and some ytime later, California. Now I deal with milder weather along with recent wild fires, flash floods, scorching heat and earthquakes, but no more snow or sub zero temps. Wherever ya live, in the words of the late great Gilda Radner, "It's always something!" Peace on Earth!

    #132 6 years ago

it said 1 degree on dashboard on my way to work last night. It did jump to 2 degrees for a few miles before going back down to 1. As a volunteer fireman, we've had multiple calls this past week for burst water pipes. Also got a township warning on phone about bursting pipes. Meanwhile my parents in phoenix keep telling me its been in the 80's and hot tub is doing well.

Is this correct? If it is I am not going outside today. I think your equipment needs some TLC.

    #141 6 years ago

    #148 6 years ago

-1 low this morning.... up to 12 now. Hasn't been above freezing for over 3 weeks or so. Lots of major pipes breaking in town . This is one the longest/coldest spells i can remember in a while. My oil tank has needed filled much more often than usual and the prices continue to go up. Looks like a thaw out this week tho.....

    #149 6 years ago

-20C, -35 when the wind chill is factored in. That's -31F for you Fahrenheit people. Not planning on going outside today.

    #150 6 years ago

It's been 0-6 F now for several days anything lower than high teens is pretty uncomfortable and dangerous.

I was throwing some snow from the driveway after 20 minutes and I came in house my fingertips were not happy with me. And yes I did have gloves on.
