I've done many out-of-state transactions. Most were done with good ole cashiers checks from a major bank. The only issue is waiting for the funds to clear, which is immediate if both parties use the same bank. If not, cashiers checks still clear faster than personal checks.
The last transaction was done with PayPal wo/insurance...seller preferred this and was a highly rated Pinsider (so I did it). No issues.
