Wrap the head in a moving blanket and then saran wrap. Wrap the cabinet the same way. Then lower the head and wrap it all together nice and tight. I know it seems like a bit much for a move from one room to another, but....... It's amazing how much easier it is to move a pin around tight corners and through narrow landings when you take the worry of damaging walls and the pin off your mind. At that point, I would just carry them by hand with a helper.
