Flash Gordon

If you can find a Laser Cue... I recommend it.

Quoted from davewtf:

you post that in every taxi thread. everyone knows you want one. i spose someone will sell you a $1000 taxi if you're willing to sell them your whitewater for $1800. That was the price on those until a few years ago, so you must be willing to go that low in return, right?

nope, just not willing to overpay for a basic game. Its a upper mid-level sys11, people are still asking bubble prices. Heck if I was selling a game I'd put it here too at a stupid high price, some chump just might bite around here. You can always finalize the price lower, and everyone here thinks the asking price is the selling price.

#54 5 years ago

taxi really shot up in the last couple years. it used to be able to be found on ebay and clist in players condition with some issues for around a 1000. there was one locally that sat for awhile under a 1000. now the game is usually twice the price. but I would imagine you could find a rough players condition for a 1000 needing rebuilt.

#55 5 years ago

I couldn't find a game I wanted here in Aus for 1k unless I got really lucky, they are too damn expensive now.
Best option would be to take the 1k to the casino.

Maybe in your opinion but it's the fifth highest rated system 11 on pinside. I'm not sure how that relegates the game to mid level given how many system 11's were made. If you expand that to all alpha numerics (a lot of people group all the pre dmd solid states as system 11 erroneously), your designation as mid level gets more dubious. It's a highly sought after game.

Not sure an F-14 Tomcat could be had for $1000 unless it was needing some lovin'

It's more plausible than quite a few that were mentioned.

I have a friend who is ready to enter the pinball hobby with a $1,000 (approx.) budget for his first pin. I have already given him my advice, but looking for other ideas. He does enjoy depth, multi-ball, and multiple flippers. Any advice? Dave

I have a firepower and space invaders in the 1200 range. both with LEDS. firepower cabinet is ready for paint. playfield is very nice and it's fast as hell. 3 ball multiball.

space invaders is a widebody with the coolest backglass ever and has 4 flippers. no multiball and plays slower than some of the others mentioned here. good first pin though

#61 5 years ago

a really decent flash can be had for $1000. Beaters, quite a bit less. Not much as far as depth but i find it to be really fun for what it is.

#62 5 years ago

this one has been listed for awhile and is a great deal.
really surprising it has not been scooped up yet.

IMO. There's just so many F-14's out there, it seems tough to get more than $1000 for them unless they are outstanding examples. You don't have to wait around very long before another pops up for sale at a grand or less.

The last couple around here were $1600-$1800....they were nice examples.

Pinbot, hands down. Enough were made that the price stays reasonable on them. You can get a good fully working players condition for $1000 no problem. Besides, who doesn't love pinbot?

damn look at that room!!!! can you be my dad please?

#68 5 years ago

Pinbot's not that great... It's a classic but it just doesn't have the staying power for me.

I'd also go for a Flash Gordon, Barracorra, Space Invaders, Centaur II, or a good late EM like Mars Trek.

#69 5 years ago

When your budget is low, its best to be patient and see what pops up in that price range on here or craigslist.

It is from the movie "Big" with Tom Hanks.

Mine would also be double what I paid for it - that is, if I were to ever consider selling it

#73 5 years ago

I can't believe no one has mentioned Shaq Attaq. $750 all day long. At my parties people play the crap out of it. DMD display, 4 flippers, multi-ball, a moving basketball goal, drop targets, spinning disk in middle of playfield.

#76 5 years ago

You might find a beat up Paragon for a grand or less.

I guess it depends when you were born.

As for Centaur II, Barracorra, and Flash Gordon, you won't find those in working condition at $1000. Space Invaders you can find under $1000 because it is a BHWBB (big heavy wide body beast).
Comet & Sorcerer can be had for under $1000 working. I'd still take Pinbot over any of those.

#78 5 years ago

Alot of Bally 6803 games are under $1,000 and you get some pretty cool original themes there.

+1 if you can find a System 11 for $1,000. That's not always an easy task.

Some System 3 Gottliebs can be had for $1,000 like Shaq, Street Fighter 2, Big Hurt, Wipe Out. DMD - Deeper Rules and really reliable board sets.

A $1000 flash is a good deal?????!

I'm guessing this is your flash you're trying to sell?

#80 5 years ago

Take a look at Black Hole. unlike a lot of the suggestions so far, it actually can be bought for $1000. Best bang for your buck around if you can find one that has had the ground mods / bulletproofing done to it, which should be possible in the ~$1000 range. super fun game. inverted lower playfield. 6 flippers. very challenging and unique multiball. great artwork. gorgeous backglass with infinity glass and chaser lights. plus it's usually pretty cheap!

a lot of people here will tell you Black Hole is an unreliable mess, and I'm sure that's true, but once it's had the well-documented ground mods done, it is a rock solid tank. It was my first pin, and it is the only pin I own that has had zero malfunctions. I've owned it for about 2 years now and played the heck out of it and it has never so much as had a switch get out of alignment.

(fun fact ... I went looking on google images for a nice Black Hole picture, and it turns out the one I happened to download turned out to be MY machine before I bought it from Habo! 717520 was the high score on it when I bought it! )

Tales from the Crypt.
Used to be able to find The Shadow, WHO dunnit, and Dirty Harry for that back in the day.

Good luck on the tftc for 1000 lol

Agreed on Black Hole. It amazes me that they don't sell for more. The game has it all. Looks, theme, sweet moving backglass with infinity lights, challenging gameplay, multiple playfields, etc. If this were a modern day pin it would be $10K plus! I've had mine for a few years now and it's been rock solid after doing the ground mods. I honestly don't think I've even needed to change a bulb or rubber or free a stuck ball in years. I just turn it on and play it!

#85 5 years ago

Lights... Camera... Action! if you can find one.

Go with him to Allentown. Leave with a machine.
T2 used to be the "go to" $1,000 machine. Sadly, no more....

Unfortunately nice doesn't make a game worth more. I've tried that 4 times now and it hasn't worked!

Yes, that particular machine would be difficult at that exact price today.
But I used to do them for that, and so many more.
This is not the place for it, but I have lots truly awesome pinball stories.
This hobby is amazing.

Spy Hunter is a fairly easy game to find, fun, and max price of a grand in excellent condition. Four flippers but some folks don't like the bottom two being off center and the two drain lanes both to the left. Does not feature Multi-ball however if that's a dealbreaker. Lot of other good games on this list but if your friend isn't looking to get something that needs work he'll likely have trouble finding some of them at a grand or less.

#90 5 years ago

That is so cool. I bought Pinbot because of the movie "Big".

I probably did too subconsciously. This was a favorite growing up, and I knew it was Pinbot back then.

The Skynet Funding Bill is passed. The system goes on-line January 14th, 2015. Human decisions are removed from strategic pricing defense. Skynet begins to learn at a geometric rate. It becomes self-inflated at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, January 29th. In a panic, they try to pull the plug.

#93 5 years ago

Yep another vote for Black Hole. Joker Poker is another great pin for the money.

List is updated in the first post of the thread. This is kinda fun...

I find it alot easier and more profitable just to be a complete d_ckhead. works with relationships too. It's underated...

How much does Baywatch go for these days? If it is anywhere close to $1K I like it better than any of the games mentioned so far.
