Hurricane is <$2k. Not the best. Just another option. Maybe the only Williams DMD still in that range.

Quoted from Allibaster:

You can't really even get those for under 2k anymore.

Sure you can...it's just that the more in demand titles move fast when priced right. l see Fire and Jokerz all day long under $2K. I sold my Taxi for under $2K this past weekend.

Quoted from Spagano314:

I rarely see Dmd games for under $2,000.

Found these right here in the marketplace in 60 seconds.

If it wasn't clear across the country I'd have this Sharkey's right now @1750

Yeah, Sharkey's would be my recommendation (it's the only DMD game I've had that regularly goes for under $2k). Decent depth with a layout highly similar to Eight Ball Deluxe.

#55 6 years ago

Wwf royal rumble has a lot going on for around 2k

#56 6 years ago

Yeah, if you have your heart set on a DMD my suggestion would be to try to stretch your budget to $2,500 to $3,000. They you are within the range of games like Johnny Mnemonic, Terminator 2, Demolition Man, Judge Dredd, Fish Tales, Bram Stoker's Dracula, World Cup Soccer, Jurassic Park, etc. Personally, if I was looking for a machine under $2,000 I'd probably be looking for something pre-DMD.

Twister can still be had @ or under the $2000 mark & is a fun game if it is all working correctly

Twister is a fun game.

Man, that was a nice one for under 2K. There is no way I would sell a decent working Taxi for that price. You'd get 2500+ for it anywhere on West coast or in Europe.

This thread is a little deceiving in that it lures the reader into thinking any DMD game is worth around 2k.

Sometimes we put too much emphasis on year or system type instead of actual game assessment.

That said, find a decently priced pin of your liking and jump on it!

I may go the Maverick path next pin.

No this thread is looking for the best DMD game money can buy under 2K. There are a handful of them and this thread is here to point out those games. Sure you can spend $500 - $1000 more are get higher tier games but thats not the point.

#63 6 years ago

I’ll say that I just picked up a working project shadow for $2,300. Does that count? Maybe not under 2k, but it was damn close. I feel like the art still turns people way off the game and keeps the value low. It’s certainly better than Gottlieb/Premier games that go for the same price.

Well, no, you missed my point, but that's cool.
I was insinuating that cheaper machines may well be better players than a generic DMD.

I get your point though, didn't mean to sidetrack or harass you.

Sorry, I took it as advise for first time buyers looking for a DMD game under $2,000. If that's the question, my honest advise would be to save up a little bit more or look for another era. I don't think there is great value in the sub-$2000 DMDs. You can spend a little bit more and be within the range of many great machines. I mentioned some in my previous post, but you could easily double or triple that list. If we're not talking about actual advise and you just want a list. There is probably only a list of two dozen or so machines: Last Action Hero, Party Zone, Big Hurt, Dr. Dude, Lethal Weapon 3, Maverick, Batman, Hook, Sharkey's Shootout, Cue Ball Wiazard, Waterworld, Street Fighter II, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Tee'd Off, Checkpoint, Whipeout, Hurricane, Al's Garage Band goes on a World Tour, Pistol Poker, Gladiators, Rescue 911, Mario Andretti, Shaq Attaq, etc. I'm sure that list will only become smaller and smaller too. If someone had their heart set on a sub-$200 DMD, I would tell them to go play anything that come up locally in that range. If they like it, buy it. Unless something has sentimental value, they are not machines I'd recommend hunting down.

Dr. Dude is a pre-DMD game.

I don't really think so. The point people are making is that you can't really make a "want list" of sub $2K DMD games anymore.

Sure, there's an occaisional Party Zone for $1900. Or there's a Space jam that needs a display for $1850. Yeah, you dug an NBA fastbreak out of someone's basement for $1,500, lucky you.

The point is you really can't go "shopping" for a sub-2K DMD anymore, unless you are really into 1990s Premier games (and I really wouldn't recommend that!). They just aren't out there.

Almost every other game I've seen listed here is either no longer easy to find at $2,000, is no longer even close to a $2,000 game anymore, or is a rare deal that the OP is unlikely to find.

$2,500 is the new $2,000 when it comes to DMD games, and if the OP understands that the search will go a little smoother without false expectations.

Big Hurt is a loaded game for under $1300

#69 6 years ago

I'm going to say Starship Troopers

The last 2 listed as "sold" with a price in the Market Archive were $2,150 & $2,400

#71 6 years ago

You really never know what you might find for under 2k but realistically I really liked Rocky and Bullwinkle, Maverick, Baywatch and the getaway and all can still realistically be found for 2k or less although it does seem like anything that was good bang for buck has gone up in price.

#72 6 years ago

I love Gladiators too mrossman5

Haha when any of these games you guys are suggesting show up for under 2k, please let me know... Thanks in advance !

#77 6 years ago

Honestly bally/williams dmd games are not under 2K any longer. I sold a hurricane at 2K in a day this year. Party zone will fall below if it has damaged parts. Which are unobtainium and make the game worth a whole lot less. Gottlieb, Sega and a few data east games can still be had in that range. I sold a decent hook for $1600 recently. But... I sold a wwf, tmnt, and a lah for over 2K which makes me feel most DE titles are climbing out of that range too.

Its really getting crazy what some b/w pins in players condition are selling for compared to a year ago.

#79 6 years ago

hmm... interesting that Starship Troopers is now over $2k. Once I get mine fully working I'll be putting it up for sale!

check the CA for sale forum. 2k whirlwind

I sold a beautiful modded sst 3 years ago for 2200...

Amazing deals can still be found. There’s always a pin sitting in someone’s basement that they sell for pennies on the dollar. I know a friend who recently picked up a newer Stern that’s valued at $4000 for only $1250. Now, if someone knows what they have, they will try to get as much as possible and the buyer won’t get a deal

There was just a clean Hurricane for sale asking $1800 on our Craigslist. I recall a Maverick for $1800 as well maybe 6 months ago. There's a working LW3 on Sacramento Craigslist for $1450 right now. I think my buddy paid $1900 or $2000 for a Starship Troopers recently. Decent <$2k DMDs can still be had.

#84 6 years ago

Is Judge Dredd still a $1400 game?

#85 6 years ago
Quoted from snyper2099:

BEST... I would say Breakshot!
Possibly these if you can track em down for 2K these days:
Jackbot (probably stretching it here)
High Roller Casino
NBA FastBreak

These three in my opinion. All three have fantastic replay value. Sub 2k is very questionable. Breakshot should be close. HRC somewhat close. FastBreak I'm thinking north of 3.5k.

That was my point. One decent B/W pin at just a hair under $2000. But that same pin was $1250 two years ago. The rest of The under $2k pins are Gottlieb, sega, or a few less desirable DE games. There used to be several B/W titles in that range. Those days are over and before you know it you won’t find a hurricane under that. Only B/W games with problems will be less than $2K. A lot of the sega, Gottlieb, DE games just aren’t comparable to same period B/W titles.

I guess I am still working with last months prices I just considered that the fair price for its condition, and I got what I wanted for it while hooking up a Pinsider with a game they've had on their wish list for a long time. I just hope that someone will do the same for me sometime in the near future.

#88 6 years ago

Black Rose and Jack*Bot still show up in the $2000-$2400 range from time to time. Both pretty great games at that price tag.

I got a Baywatch a couple weeks ago and like it more than the Judge Dredd I had. Tight and varied shots. New ROM to reduce strobing was a huge improvement. I paid more than $2k but feel like it was still a good deal. Under $2k Baywatch seems like a no brainer.

LOL WHAT. You cant touch these at 2k or less around here...

here is a LAH for 2k.

Theres good reasons for that

#95 6 years ago

Yes, it is right at 2k, and missing magnets and needs new targets...

#96 6 years ago

If you are patient and a tad lucky you can always find the right game for the right price.
Your best bet is to scour craigslist or talk to someone locally.

I got my Royal Rumble (WWF) for under 2k. It's definitely a players condition game but I set the game up pretty brutal and it always keeps me coming back to play it even after owning it for just over a year.

#97 6 years ago

There was a HOU Royal Rumble with an asking price of $2000 not far from my work place a few weeks ago. Would have at least checked it out, but was heading off for vacation. No idea what it sold for.

#98 6 years ago

Agreed you "can" find pins in this range, but I'm guessing the OP was wondering about "average " prices. Whatever that means. At least that is how I interpret the question.

I think it's funny that 2 years from now we can change DMD to System 11 and have the same conversation again! Heck, maybe 1 year.

I no longer buy into the B/W superiority and DE/Sega inferiority that was spoon fed to me when I got into the hobby. I have owned plenty of both now and find a lot of DE/Sega pins to be just as fun and plenty reliable. But I don't mind all the B/W snobs talking down on DE/Sega. It helps keep the prices down.

To me DE games have almost exactly the same feel as the Williams games - and they should because most of them are made with a lot of Williams parts.
