Quoted from thCapn:A few things can cause hobbies like this to increase in price.
1. Older machines/equipment get labeled as "rare" because they are vintage/antiques.
2. Machines get worn and parted out, destroyed, lost, etc. Hence, fewer of them on the market = higher prices for those titles in demand.
3. The more people that join the hobby the more demand = higher prices.
4. The effects of speculators and inflation.
5. Good parts availability for specific titles = higher prices and poor parts availability = lower prices.
I have been a vintage Lambretta enthusiast for years and these exact same things have been driving prices up well beyond the rate of inflation.
Ahhh, a scooter aficionado!! I just sold a collection of five Vespas and I took an absolute bath on them. 1953, 57, 64 (w/sidecar), 79 2002. Ten K took them all and they were in really nice shape ridden very little and lived inside my living room. Very bad investment for me. Pins are far superior.
