I just took a look at a Street Fighter II project. It was passed onto me from a local arcade operator.
The game doesn’t work, only the GI lights up and there is a loud ground-hum from the speaker. There is a relay clicking under the playfield and the game has lots of rust on the ramps, wireforms and side rails. Playfield has some wear and is dirty, needs a complete deep shop out.

Game has mouse shit all over it, and sitting next to the game with the coin box out was a HUGE rats nest. The manual was shredded as was other paper documents. Broken glass and other pieces under the playfield as well as a sticker from a local arcade leads me to believe the game has been routed, although the seller insists his family bought it new back in 1993. The boards in the back are actually decent but still the game does not even light into attract mode.

Game is kept in an unfinished basement garage that experiences some temp changes but is heated. Seller is asking $2,000 and I have given the realistic offer of $500-$700 and explained the kind of work and issues with this game.

I told him I’d get him offers from real collectors based on an honest state of the game.
Apparently there is some Facebook person offering his $2000 even though it doesn’t work. I am certain this person will not actually give him that when they see the game in person.

Help me out here Pinside, what would you pay?

my buddy just picked that up a month ago for $500 in similar condition.

#3 5 years ago

I'm not sure this game is worth more than $1500 fully working. I wouldn't offer more than $400.

#4 5 years ago

$300-$500, as long as the wiring is intact.

#5 5 years ago

Hard pass....even if you could talk him down to a few hundred. If he did get a 2k offer, he should have taken it and gtfo of Dodge yesterday

This is also known as a lie.

It’s got holes drilled in the front for a lock bar. This is most likely not a home use only game, I would presume your assumption about it being in an arcade is correct. I would probably offer $500 but wouldn’t go much higher than that.

I've seen brackets installed on HUO games, so that's not necessarily a definitive.

#9 5 years ago

I sold a nice working one for 1300 , no rat shit included.

#10 5 years ago

disgusting. once mice are involved im out. They ruin everything and pass along horrifying germs.
but....
if it was a MM for cheap in same condition id deal with it .
this street fighter i would pass. let him get the imaginary 2k someone is offering..lol

#11 5 years ago

There is ZERO way this is worth 2k in that condition. If it were shopped, waxed, cleaned, LEDed, nvram, and perfectly working....maybe 2k.

This looks like 500-700 to me. 1k is the absolute tops...and thats assuming mostly positives for what I can't see.

If he was already offered 2k for it (he wasn't, btw) he should have taken it and ran.

#12 5 years ago

walk away!

#13 5 years ago

Is it for you, or are you thinking of flipping? Looks like a hard sell working, so unless you want the game for yourself and enjoy the labor of love I'd offer $350 and a phone number.

#14 5 years ago

I thought this was going to be a comedy thread. That’s not a popular game on a good day in perfect condition; so not working at all, with rust, and rodent crap all over it, he isn’t going to get a lot of money for that game.

Rats and mice probably started chewing on wires under the playfield.
Double check the battery for leakage.

I’d maybe go as high as $500. But even then it could be a pass for me. It could take a grand just to get it working if the boards are pooched.

#15 5 years ago

I’d offer $500. Keep in mind if you wait long enough you may find one on Pinside for $1500 plus shipping, in working condition. I have this game and I paid $1,900 fully working. I was alright with it since it was local.

On a side note, I have never seen a SF2 without holes for a lock bar.

#16 5 years ago

This is the hardest of hard passes for me.

I thought that there were some games with lock bars installed NIB

#18 5 years ago

I think you went too high. I’d offer him all the change in my pocket, lunch, maybe a $100 bill.

I think pretty much any working EM has more value.

To the people that would offer $500 - y’all are generous.

No way is that game HUO. NO WAY.

I wouldn’t deal with that guy - let him get his $2K.

Most of the Gottlieb DMD games came from the factory with security hardware on the front of the machine. There are exceptions, but I don't think I've ever seen a SF2 that wasn't drilled from the factory. I've owned a lot of them and it's one of my favorite games.

#20 5 years ago

Back in the 90's when the distributors were closing out the Gottlieb games, if you bought a Barb Wire, you could get a FREE Street Fighter! They still had NIB ones sitting around back then, 4 years after the game was released.

#21 5 years ago

if its complete i would probably pay $800 as long as none of the wiring was chewed. Its funny to see these threads where its worth $300 and in the for sale threads its 2k and everyone is saying nice machine.

#22 5 years ago

I'd say $400-600 in that condition, depending on the extent of the damage from the mouse. And how bad you want a SF2.

Seller should have cleaned up the mouse stuff if it wasn't too bad so it wasn't tainting the entire transaction.

The game not working may just be low 5v or the watchdog circuit. Sometimes you can play with the pot on the power supply to get the game working, but you'd want to use a meter while adjusting things. Of course, not really worth the trouble if the seller is sticking to around $2k price.. and it's his game until it's your game. Plus, if he sees it working he might want $5k out of it

People have serious hate for this machine on here because of the stop and go game play, the art work and the Pinside phenomena of hating on things in groups. To me it’s 90s charm is off the charts!

It's a terrible game that doesn't work and it's covered in rat shit.

Honestly you'd be doing him a favor by removing it for free. If you insist on buying this thing any offer beyond an extremely generous $500 might get you committed to a mental health facility.

Ya, but your self annointed as crazy; Levi. So how bad off would he really be.

#27 5 years ago

I appreciate all the feedback on this. I’m showing this thread to the seller and hopefully he understands that I’m being honest and generous with my offer and this game is not worth more than a few hundred in its current state.

#28 5 years ago

How much is your time worth? $500 to buy it as is +$500 in parts = $1000. Maybe 40 hours to get it fully working and into decent shape where it might sell for $1500. In order for this purchase to make sense you'd have to make less than $12.50 an hour. I'd recommend picking up a few extra shifts at work to get the money to buy a nicer example of this machine. At $300 I might buy it... with the intent of working on it over a few months for the sake of having fun. If you enjoy fixing up machines... I'd go $300 on this. If you are just trying to save money... you won't.

Good luck.

Quoted from Daditude:

Did you ever get it?

No. Seller now believes him and his dad can fix it, or some story like that. I tried to explain the delicacies of a pinball machine and how it’ll probably lower the value if they attempt to work on it as someone will have to reverse the hacks. Now he won’t respond, unfortunately.
I presume this machine will sit until it is thrown out because nobody will ever pay more than a few hundred dollars for how bad it is.

The age old saying “sometimes the buy you don’t make is the best one”.

#32 4 years ago

300 would be max. 2k? Not a chance.

Youd spend tons of time and in the end add very little value, it's a 1500 game at best. If it were TZ that would be a diff story. Seller is delusional at best.

#33 4 years ago

Well it just goes to show you how little they actually know about pinball. Even if they professionally fix the game, shop it out and clean it up so that it works and looks 100%, it still wouldn’t be worth the $2k that they want. ....and my assumption is that if they do get it repaired, then they will probably raise the price to reflect all of the work that they put into it.

There's nothing you can do when an uneducated seller thinks they see dollar signs, unfortunately.

$500 top
I’m selling mine $1600(without rats)
