Any stern Pro would be a great first pin such they really don't make any bad games right now. (With possible exception of LZ Pro). DP, GOTG, GZ all great pros it comes down to theme that will hold your interest.

Another suggestion that is a great game and pretty reasonably priced is Star Trek Pro. You are a trekkie and I know it isn't the next gen BUT.... it is a fantastic shooting game that is great for newbies. The code is straight forward and really keeps your interest. Great pin to have fun and build your skills. Plus, they made a ton of them and the price is very reasonable and readily available. Just my 2 cents
