Would The Goonies Theme work? There’s enough iconic sets (ship, one eyed wilys throne room, skull piano), recognizable music, ideas/characters for deep rule set. I think it’s as popular as Munters, Godzilla and Rick and Morty IP.

Somebody has to reach out to the VH camp and get that VH pinball machine made. Out of the “major” rock acts they have to be the only one left who hasn’t done a pinball machine. I hope they celebrate all eras.

I cant see a rap pin or a muppet pin being more niche than Munsters.

Muppets are a 50 year old Ip (The street, fraggles, Muppet show, babies, dark crystal, labyrith and its connected to disney and hits all the nostalgia feels for anyone under 30.

Rap has been the most popular form of music in the last 25 years. I dont like rap and own 3 Hard Rock pins, I know rap is more popular than a TV show thats been off the air for 40 years and off of nick at night for 25. Making an "old school" rap pin with RunDMC, Beasties, LL, exc.. or a 90s gansta rap pin with Dre,Snoop, Tupac, Biggie is a layup. toss regulate on there do an east coast as the pro and west as the preimum.

#25069 2 years ago
Quoted from kool1:

I think it would make a decent pin but it won't sell well because most middle age men don't play Minecraft or identify with it.
Maybe in 20 years... Next generation

I feel the same about Pokemon and any post early 90s game properties and IPs in general.

Need more time for that nostalgia to really kick in.

#25072 2 years ago
Quoted from SNES:

I disagree with the thoughts on Pokémon. The kids that grew up playing it are in their 30s now. And it is popular again with kids now. I’m 33 and have a 7 year old and guarantee I would have to buy Pokémon. Nostalgia on my end and a theme my daughter loves? Yes please!

Damn, has pokemon been around that long? I'm 40 and I dont remember it being a thing till I worked retail in college.

#25073 2 years ago
Quoted from mpdpvdpin:

Pokémon would be an absolute blockbuster. It would break sales records if Stern could keep up the demand. Every location in the US would buy one, any pin collector with kids may be forced to buy one haha

Must be since it wasn't really a cultural event till I was already too old to understand it that I don't see it that way. I always think of pokemon as almost like a hello kittie or the cabbage patch kids. I know it has a huge following but I didn't think anyone over 30 paid it any mind.

#25078 2 years ago
Quoted from SNES:

Yeah, we played the card games and the Game Boy games in elementary school. A friend of mine got the green version in 5th grade. He was the coolest haha

Quoted from pch3727:

You just missed the beginning of the wave. Everyone around 35 or younger has had some form of pokemon in their pop culture. My 8 year old son has watched every minute of available pokemon content on Netflix and collects cards just like I did 30 years ago. The longevity of the franchise is amazing. I'm pretty sure it is the highest grossing franchise across all media/entertainment.

Must have slipped under the age wire before the bomb blew up.

#25079 2 years ago
Quoted from mpdpvdpin:

I’m forty and have never watched it or played a game but I can recognize what a huge license it is. I’m not personally interested other than as an operator. I could retire off of the coin drop from a Pokémon haha.

I just thought it was for little kids and hardcore collectors. I had no clue it was that big with people in their 30s. I just can't see myself with a beer in my hand playing a big yellow machine with a giant yellow raccoon on it with happy music and soft drawn cartoons but I'd totally play a green machine with a giant frog and yellow bird and puppets that sing happy songs, but its all about perspective.

Quoted from JackG:

Pokémon would be the most sought after pin of all time. As long as it plays well any person of any age would love it. I never got into it until Pokémon Go came out. My son loved it so I started playing with him. For a couple years up until the pandemic we’d use the weekend to visit different parks, go on hikes and catch pokemons. It was a lot of quality time. If there were IC that had rare Pokémon in different locations like they did with Go. And every time you play you caught new Pokémon and were able to evolve it like in Go, then I could finally get my son into pinball and spend the weekends traveling around to different locations with him. It would be hard to license and tough to code IC, but that’s an op dream pin. And every year you could update code to a new generation of Pokémon like they did with Go. Also when I played Go, there were people of all ages walking around and catching them. Plus since it’s at locations, they could even crossover to put Go locations with special features like rare Pokémon nests where pins are which could drive an entirely new audience to the hobby and drive new people to locations with pins. I’d probably get hooked on Go again.

This whole Pokémon pinball machine back and forth makes me feel like Johnny Lawrence in Cobra Kai and people on here are the kids trying to tell me about the Internet. I see that pikachu and all I see is a little kids stuffed animal. Maybe it would be big with the under 40 crowd but to people who are not connected to its a child’s IP.

A Bruce Lee pin or an Enter the Dragon Pin would be a must buy for me. Lots of material for game. Have Bruce’s kiai be the sound when you hit the bumpers, gotta have “Bullshit Mr Han Man” as the call out when you drain, “O’Hara has disgraced us” when you win a mini game. Have the scene when Lee infiltrated where they make drugs and beat up like 100 as the multi ball video. So many callouts. Music is perfect. Love this artwork style for the playfield. I know it’s not a “family” game but not everything has to be for kids.

Will Stern make a new Stern pin? I bet the topper on this thing would be... interesting.
[quoted image]

Huge Howard fan since the 90s but his lack of popularity with general audiences to and his glory days being riddled with non PC jokes we have a better chance Artie Lange returning to the show.

I’d love it but honestly what made the Show popular would never be tolerated these days.

Muppets is a total dream pin for me. Every time I watch an old episode I see clips that should be used for the video part. The guest host be the mini game, Gotta have Paul Williams doing Old Fashioned Love Song and Alice doing Welcome to my Nightmare. End game call out has to be Waldorf and Statler dogging you. So much you could do with it.

Standard Muppet Show Pro
Gonzo the Great Premium
Kermit Green LE

I know it’s not as big as the other IP mentioned but I think it has a built in audience.

Lost at Neverland multi-ball. When you drain the call out says “I’ve found you”.

Quoted from Utesichiban:

The reviews for Top Gun Maverick are indicating it is very good and going to be another blockbuster. If the license was obtainable, I am still surprised this is a theme Stern hasn't done or pursued. Maybe I'm in the minority here but I think Top Gun (no, F14 isn't the same thing) would be a great pinball theme and I'd be all over it.

I’m over sequels to movies that came out almost 40 years ago. Everyone of them has been a massive letdown. Too many winks at the audience, fan service writing, actors phoning it in. I bet Miles Teller sings You lost that loving feeling at some point. Lame.

Reviews don’t mean anything , most of those come from people who will blow the movie company just to see stuff early at screeners. I can’t see people under 30 giving too much of a shit about this movie. Especially not to have a pinball machine about it.

#27041 1 year ago
Quoted from Utesichiban:

Well, how many under 30 are into pinball and have the money to purchase a 7-10k pinball machine? If your premise is no one under 30 cares or would buy a Top Gun themed pinball machine, why does Stern keep cranking out 70's and 80's hair and hard rock themed pins? Nostalgia sells and it has been that way for some time.
As for your thoughts on the movie, well the typically cynical critic crowd doesn't seem to share that view:
https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/top_gun_maverick

Question 1: I don't keep up with other people's financial situations. I do Know that movies dont make money without people under 30.

Question 2: The songs from those bands are played in sport events, movies, shows, video games and comercials. Thats how those bands stay relevent with young people and stay alive in the minds of people like you.

I think the OG Top Gun is an overrated movie that relys more on happy memories of 3-4 scenes than the actual film being "good". But thats just my opinon. Once again I think all of the 80's "comeback" Films have been kind of shit and have ruined some of the magic of the old films.

So glad they are NOT gonna do Goonies 2. Who wants to see the fat hobbit go back to Oregon?

#27046 1 year ago
Quoted from Utesichiban:

So you are saying Stern is selling a lot of band and 80's themed pins to the under 30 demographic because they are playing Metallica, Iron Maiden, RUSH, etc at sporting events, etc? Sorry, I can't recall the last time I heard sings from most of the afore mentioned bands anywhere but classic rock radio stations.
I just don't buy the argument Stern is deciding on themes and licenses based on their appeal to the 30-35 and under demographic. Sure they'd like to appeal to the younger group as well to create a market for the future but their bread and butter is still most of us who grew up in the 70's, 80's, or 90's and most of their theming (outside of the Disney supee hero stuff) reflects that.
If you don't like Top Gun, fine. There are a lot of us that would love the theme and buy it in a heartbeat... and don't be surprised if this new Top Gun movie is one of the summers biggest blockbusters and draws in the 20 and 30 something crowd as well

Whaever you say. Enjoy Utah.

I haven't seen it yet but I've heard the newest Ghostbusters is awesome. I secretly wish they would release a Ghostbusters or Indiana Jones pin fully using the latest Stern hardware, but I know that will never happen.

I caught it. It wasn't for me.

A new Indy pin would be cool. But i think 'd like to see JJp take a swing at it this time. Their layouts and toys would work really well with the Indy Mythos. Have a rope bridge from Temple of Doom be the multi balll save when multi ball starts Indy cuts the rope. Be so cool. Just keep it Orignal trilogy. No Shoof LaBoof or the chick from Fleabottom.

Quoted from Utesichiban:

Will be interesting to see if those films do exceed Top Gun. It is Cruises biggest opening movie ever and 2nd biggest Memorial Day movie of all time. Word of mouth and those seeing it a second time in theatre may help it continue momentum for at least a few more weeks.
If those other movies do better at the box office, it may be the fact China will allow them be screened (unlike Top Gun). Of course, their government needs to let people leave their apartments or homes first for that to happen.
https://www.cnn.com/2022/05/29/media/top-gun-maverick-box-office/index.html

Last few Disney/Marvel flicks were banned in China. Strange, Eternals, Shang Chi all banned. All made buckets of money in the states and other non-bigoted countires, kinda saved theaters post-lockdown IMO. Thor will 100% be banned due to China being anti-LGBTQ. These movies are not Citizen Kane or Godfather but they really try to give positive messages and tell compelling stories. Been reading comics since 87, this is a golden age. Some are good. some are shit but all in all its better than most of the blockbuster crap of the 90s and early 00s. Wild Wild West? Every "End of the World movies of 2012"? Keep em. Make mine Marvel.

Now that the Daniel Craig Bond era is over, I think his movies are like 4th on the list behind Connery, Moore and Brosnan. Casino Royle is steller but they really went down after that with the last two or three being pretty basic action. The Bourne influence got too deep after those movies took off and it made the Bond movies less special. They need to go back to a bit more "fantasical" elements that made stuff like Live and Let Die, Goldeneye, Man with the Golden Gun, Russia with Love stand out from the Bourne/Uncharted on PS4 stuff everyone is pumping out these days.

Quoted from mpdpvdpin:

Yeah? Then why are there like 5 modern Transformers films and zero GI JOE? Why do they STILL make Transformers toys but not GI Joe?

Kind of weird that your pins are in a pizza shop that is based on 80's nostalgia yet you didn't know that there have been 3 Joe films in the last 10 years.
They totally make Joe action figures to this day in Providence (believe it or not), IDW still publishes monthly Joe comics, Its been 10 years since they had a cartoon NOT 30.

If you really think Munsters is more current that GI Joe you need your head examined.

I tried so hard to like either of the Dune films but I’ve come to the conclusion it’s just not for me. The new one is a Well shot film but I just couldn’t connect with it.

Quoted from Ecw0930:

I watched Dune as a kid and was confused AND bored.
I watched the new one on a plane, twice, and was almost as bored and only slightly less confused.... And then it ended.
I can't think of any good reason to try and make modes, shots, or a layout from that movie.
I wanted it to be good and it was just.... A movie on a plane to waste time. Twice.
