Guys what are you expecting? If LOTR is really getting remade. It will be based on Spike 1 Hardware with a standard red DMD, using the existing animations from the original game.
Renewing the license for a theme like LOTR isn’t cheap. Expanding the license to also use movie clips is even more expensive.
If they are going to use a LCD, they will most likely create their own animations like an BKSOR or Deadpool. But doing this would also require changed playfield artwork. But I highly doubt they are choosing this path.

Actually, I really doubt that the cost of a larger ROM was really ever an issue. The cost of developing the extra speech/music/video would dwarf the couple of dollars per machine that a larger ROM would have been.
90's games were less "deep" because it was unnecessary, not because they couldn't do it.

Just my guess since spike 2 uses hardware that is already likely compatible with whatever spike 3 contains, so yes I'd imagine it would be fine to run spike 2's on the new hardware. Even better for them if spike3 board is cost-reduced compared to spike 2. (this does not always mean downgrades- it's just how the chip market functions that older chips/legacy stuff can be more expensive than current gen.

eah I am on the list for a Metallica Premium. My assumption for a long time is that this is a "Vault" style game upgraded to SPIKE 3 system and cabinet. SPIKE 3 should in theory be fast enough to emulate the SAM system, so little porting would need to be done for each game. The crappy mp3 mono sound would need to be replaced with uncompressed stereo sound and obviously the dots can be greatly upgraded.

Camilo Pardo was contracted by Stern for the three different sets of translites and cabinet art because of the work he did in Ford's Advance Design studio. All Mustang pros built on April 17, 2014 had a special plate added in commemoration of the Ford Mustang's April 17, 1964 public debut. A row of seven Mustang pros were in the Ford booth at the February 2014 Chicago Auto Show, each set up with a special game code of two minute timed multiball play, to allow as many show visitors as possible to try the games.
