Quoted from shaub:

What exactly does Kapow do? It seems like they just get the licensing maybe?

think 'executive producer'

In the past they've helped broker the licensing deals - bringing pinball into other larger bundled agreements. Presumably they stay engaged in the process as consulting and liaison. They are stern games... just with other stakeholders involved.

Quoted from DS_Nadine:

You can believe that... or reality.
So name ONE improvement of Star Trek Vault.
Oh yeah, it has a „last voyage EDITION“ plaque on it.
And when Tron was new there was no „Vault Edition“, or „Premium“ or anything.
There was no ongoing long production run either, pinball was pretty beat up at that time.
So rerunning this game two years , like you do now just regulary manufacture a game for years, was a novelty.
But yes, if it makes you feel better, it can‘t be a Vault, since the category didn‘t exist yet.

we all called out ST 'vault' as some abuse of the label when it was announced... no need to try to throw out everything else because of one bad move.

ST Vault was questioned because the game really had never been fully retired.. or if it technically had.. was just done.

It just seemed to be Stern trying to cash in on their own manufactured hype.

Quoted from mbeardsley:

But I am sure at quantity, the price difference is negligible. Even if they cost double (which I am sure they don't), we're talking about less than $10 per machine. Seems like there are much better places to skimp on than something as critical as the flippers.
But then again, they skimped on the coil stops too, so I guess we know where their mindset is.

Price delta per coil x number of flippers
Unless you go old school analog EOS, you also increase the circuits to drive the flippers

$10 is not immaterial in a BOM...

Quoted from mbeardsley:

Ahh, I did not realize that he makes the cooling kit...that explains a lot.
By the way, if Williams coils are so much more expensive to make than Stern coils, then why does Pinball Life sell them for less than they do Stern coils?

Pinball life has gotten into the parts manufacturing business. It's possible he has different suppliers or economies of scale on different coil types. And don't forget retail price isn't always set by cost, but rather what they can charge

Quoted from BasementFacts:

Why does everyone assume it’s a specific guy’s (like Dwight) fault? From my experience, 99% of the time it’s an executive’s fault for rushing a product that’s not ready or reassigning people to different projects

Because Gary is an accountant - not a rules designer. He doesn't meddle in the factors people are talking about here. This has been discussed time and time again in interviews over time. Gary is like an Executive Producer - he doesn't get into the weeds. And Dwight's patterns have played out over multiple titles, with patterns more unique to his projects than others.

Quoted from BasementFacts:

You’re confirming my statement that he’s an executive with authority to ship products without them being finished. Dwight has a boss. If it’s not Gary, it’s someone else. Blame the boss. It’s silly to think Dwight is just haphazardly doing whatever he feels like.

You're arguing a point no one is making.

The beef with Dwight code is not day 1 vs day 100. The beef is with his choices for the code.

Quoted from jeffro01:

LOL... FACT? How can you make such a definitive statement? FACT, my Halloween is fine, no more issues than any other game I own. So again, what the hell are you talking about?

So your experience means no one else's experiences actually happened? Da faq man - the teething is real. Get over it.

#30570 1 year ago
Quoted from mpdpvdpin:

The experience of someone who has spent time on a game and completed everything in its code is far more educated than the experience of someone who didn’t even take their game out of the box or played it for ten minutes in an arcade. That’s a fact.

The issues happened - fact. The fact you stuck it out and rode it out is great - doesn't make the past go away. Put away your whitewash.
