Quoted from Pin-Bob:I don't think it's that weird of a pick. The Borderlands movie is a Marvel franchise.
It is? This is news to me. The movie looks terrible and I didn't see any Marvel branding anywhere in the trailer.

It's not marvel.
Quoted from Pin-Bob:The Borderlands movie is a Marvel franchise..
No, it isn't. Not even a little.
If we can get proof of borderlands swag being delivered I think that's the nail in the coffin ladies and germs.
Should be awesome! Borderlands is a great series (I will not go near the "movie" with a 10 foot pole) and I think ol' Danger could do it justice!
EDIT: And it can't be overstated enough- If marvel and marvel pins disappeared tomorrow I would be very happy- so please Stern, diversify!
This would also be their first foray into video game pins which people have been clamoring for!!!
I think the general space western theme of borderlands would make for a really cool base to build a pin off of. It feels strange because typically pinball has stayed away from video game licenses but as a fan of the games, I’d be all for it.
Quoted from PinMonk:It is? This is news to me. The movie looks terrible and I didn't see any Marvel branding anywhere in the trailer.
For a "summer blockbuster" I didn't hear one thing aboot this movie until last week.
They better hope Kevin Hart can pull them in. Twisters is already going tits up as well.
It would be fucking hilarious if Borderlands, a game entirely about how many guns are in it, is the follow up to John Wick
But I super doubt it. Does not seem like a Stern kind of property. Zen Pinball did do a Borderlands pin though. Also when was the last time Stern did a movie release that wasn't timed with a sequel (or later)? They're way to risk averse to do this property...sounds more like an American Pinball kinda theme

Jinx...

Excellent point
I get that its kinda funny to joke about, but I also don't think seeing guns in previous or future sterns and comparing it to John Wick is the comedic powerhouse some people want it to be. The JW licensor was just being an idiot and Stern was beholden to it. Its pretty much a guarantee we'll see guns in future Stern games, and I'm not looking forward to all the guys who think they are being super original and clever by pointing it out when it happens.
Not singling you out Treybo, you know I think you're hilarious, your comment just got me thinking about the topic in general. We all know its inevitable

the best jokes are the ones run into the ground though
it's like Sideshow Bob walking on rakes

Yeah but for me, the premise just isn't funny on its face because I know it was just the licensor being dumb. If it was Stern themselves making the call in order to make some sort of statement, and then pulling back on it on the next game, then there could be some comedic potential there to run into the ground.
Quoted from TreyBo69:What people really want to know is when is the next black and white pin from Stern[quoted image]
Hopefully a Munsters re-run. My ‘new pin money’ is safe until then.

But isnt Lionsgate the same licensor? What would be the difference here?
Quoted from Roostking:But isnt Lionsgate the same licensor? What would be the difference here?
You'd have to ask them, and don't expect things to make sense

Then why would you think it would be any different?

I want a Munsters. Never played one. What's the story here? Was it a dud? Short license?
Quoted from Roostking:Then why would you think it would be any different?
You'd think diff'rent properties have diff'rent rules.
Quoted from Roostking:Then why would you think it would be any different?
Different IP, possible different team that works with licensors, different rules regarding the IP that they've made up, the list is endless.
Quoted from TreyBo69:What people really want to know is when is the next black and white pin from Stern[quoted image]
I don't want to speak on -Color since I haven't seen it yet, but Black and Chrome is horrendous and does absolutely nothing for it. What a beautifully made film as well that just pops on screen, only to rob it of its best quality.
Quoted from Haymaker:Yeah but for me, the premise just isn't funny on its face because I know it was just the licensor being dumb.
Really? I saw it as Stern being dumb and not thinking the restriction through. They literally could have slapped an age badge on the backglass and had all the guns they wanted - just like the action figures. It's like it never occurred to them.
Quoted from SimplePin:I want a Munsters. Never played one. What's the story here? Was it a dud? Short license?
You do not want a Munsters. Incredibly shallow, repetitive, boring pin - and I'm a huge Munsters fan. There's just very little code in it. It's a shame because I think Borg did a good job with the playfield layout. Xaqery was just severely restricted on code by Stern edict (according to what Gomez has said), and the game suffered. It DOES, however, have one of the BEST midnight madness integrations. Really choice.

That's not how licenser restrictions go.

Not deep code but a great , beautiful, and very fun pin nonetheless

I'll just throw this in there as well. I thought I might want a Munsters premium at one point. Then I got to play one, and immediately thought to myself "What the hell is up with the lower flipper button placement?! It was so irritating having my fingertips constantly bumping the lower buttons. So annoying it's a deal breaker for me even if the game were amazing.
Quoted from Pinhead_:That's not how licenser restrictions go.
it may have been in this case though. They considered pinball to be like a video game. John Wick video games have guns on the covers, but they also have a rating. Gomez said it didn't really cross their mind to try that. Where I differ with Vic, is that maybe its just as simple as that. They simply didn't think of it. Was that being dumb, or was it simply just a case of an idea not crossing somebodies mind? Maybe they just didn't think everyone would be so upset about it and it wasn't worth fighting about. I don't know, but I don't hold it against Stern too much. I can also imagine a world where they plaster some sort of warning on a game and now everybody makes fun of that instead.
Quoted from Pinhead_:That's not how licenser restrictions go.
Licensor. Licensor restrictions.
And yes, that's exactly how it went for action figures that had tons of guns for John Wick visible pre-purchase, just like a Wick Pin with guns in the art would have been. The toy company just put the age rating on the box and viola! gun-o-rama!
Based on the concerns outlined by Gomez in the interview about this, it's clear that an ESRB or MPAA-type badge stating the minimum age to play the game (with no teeth) would have assuaged licensor concerns and let Stern properly arm John Wick.
Gomez discussing rating systems that Lionsgate was expecting to allow guns on the cabinet and playfield (like video games and media have) here (it never occurred to Stern to just slap a rating on it):
Quoted from SimplePin:I want a Munsters. Never played one. What's the story here? Was it a dud? Short license?
Dud. Boring layout, no exciting shots or mechs, shallow structure, it's almost a clone of Monster Bash, shoot each of the monsters several times to get to the wizard mode which is the only thing that matters for points. It's also a dud for theme/franchise.
We know there weren't many produced, though we don't really know if that was from a short license or just lack of demand. Prices are a little high even with low demand because supply was even lower.
in regards the borderlands talk, it definitely would have some cool potential, for those that haven't played the game, there's a lot of randomness to the guns you get and then there's multiple different characters to play as with multiple skill trees to evolve those characters traits as you progress, allowing you to play the game different ways everytime whether you change characters or not. Point being, could make for a really fun way to play a pinball, extend gameplay life if they are balanced as well as the game to provide multiple viable paths to scoring in game.
Quoted from acedanger:So far what are the rumors? Xmen97, New Metallica or is it going to be a B/W vault?
I think the runor is still Xmen followed by Metallica.
Quoted from pinballaddicted:I think the runor is still Xmen followed by Metallica.
That's what I keep hearing also ... Xmen 97 could be interesting.
Quoted from TheLaw:You'd think diff'rent properties have diff'rent rules.
But doesnt Liongate own both properties, seems they would want to be as consisent as possible? I admit, I know nothing about licensing.
Quoted from Roostking:But doesnt Liongate own both properties, seems they would want to be as consisent as possible? I admit, I know nothing about licensing.
Ha I got no clue either, I just assume thst they own many IPs that are all diff'rent.
Like they own Twilight, so they make a bunch of tweeny shit like the "Team Edward" shirt i brought my wife 15 years ago....man she was so young.
But they gotta handle John Wick diff'rently...you'd think....maybe?
Quoted from SimplePin:I want a Munsters. Never played one. What's the story here? Was it a dud? Short license?
I played an LE Munsters then a Turtles and you can tell they both are by the same designer (borg) Not for me I just don’t like the shots and layouts but that’s just me.
Quoted from Fsdre:Anyone got any new rumors???
Yup. From a credible source.
Barney Miller '79 ... comic edition.
Zombie nailed it.

Knapp Arcade just said its X-Men, Metallica then...
King Kong from Elwin...... hmmm not sure I love that

and after Pokemon.. none of them ringing the bell.. and Im happy with that.. would be awesome to have my money safe for a while
Quoted from Roostking:How will Lionsgate handle the guns in Borderland? More Nunchucks?[quoted image]
nunchucks is a no go. I can remember in the 1987 series they removed the nunchucks from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and replaced it with a grapplink hook. And in europe they where called Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, ninja was also a no go.
But times change and hopefully we can have nunchucks and guns
Borderlands might be cool choice.

I never dreamed I would buy a GZ pin - I could not care less about GZ before the game came out. Learned that unless I hate a theme, I'm open to most. I have no feelings about King Kong but I can see a decent game coming out of the assets. Abba is definitely a pass no matter what LOL.
