Quoted from Zen_Monkey:

Pokemon is the largest grossing media franchise of all time, there’s no denying that. hello Kitty is a close second, Stern better wrap that up the market is just waiting to be tapped they would be idiots not to!
a theme isn’t going to magically unlock all those non pinball players hearts and doesn’t magically print money for a company.
I think there’s plenty in the subset of pinball owners that might get excited by the theme and more importantly plenty of people who will learn to enjoy a theme if the table is well designed.

I'm in for Hello Kitty. Do a boutique run like Supreme, I don't care.

Only if there is an Island Adventure Multiball.

Kuromi is big in my house lately

#47504 4 months ago

Dr. Toilet would be an insta-buy. It would be impervious to Stern poor-quality jokes - they would only strengthen the theme.

Why boutique? It’s a huge franchise much larger than StarWars, Harry Potter and MCU. It will print money and grow the pinball market, grandpas will be buying machines and their grandchildren will have a fire lit in their hearts that will save pinball for generations to come.

#47506 4 months ago

So, seems at least possible from the "Saved by the ball, I see..." line from the "story trailer" that Ian McShane might be doing callouts for Wick? That sounds like an absolute home run if so. The other couple lines didn't seem specifically custom, but I don't know the movies by heart.

Could be a one-off edit for the otherwise useless trailer, but....

I wasn't insisting it be boutique, just meant I'd settle for any arrangement.

Quoted from Whistles:

You could do a crossover with Stern IC Pokemon Pinball / Pokemon go and have the app lead people to location pinball. Print money for everyone.

People would be playing pokemon go while waiting in line to play pokemon pinball.

Make each pinball a pokemon go location. It would be glorious

#47509 4 months ago

Maybe spike 3 will support night / day cycles for Pokemon. People would have to come back to get more Pokemon!

Quoted from Fezmid:

Do you think they randomly assign numbers? I ask because my Venom LE is in the 700 range.

you can [pay] a premium to get a specific LE number (if it isn't already taken). I've done it once to get RUSH LE 374 (374 as is march 1974 when the band released their first album). it was an extra $100.

This . How many pokémon lovers also love and will spend 10k on a pinball ? I would think that’s a pretty low number

We will sell a Charizard foil and buy a LE with that money.

I’m in the believe that if they do Pokemon and if the game is good, there will be many pin heads installing Pokemon Go on their phones.

Or their kids wanting to play it so much.

#47514 4 months ago

I am old and I am not the target market for a Pokémon pinball nor would I ever buy such a game. and that is ok.... carry on

I have only purchased NIB pinballs three so far.

Next theme I would love would be The Replacements, Joy Division- New Order, or Indy Car but since the series cant even draw a million viewers weekly it wouldn't sell. or how about a CBGB pin that featured acts that started playing at the venue. I like the GZ pin that recently came into my basement. The GnR not so much but the wife loves that one. parting thought Iggy Pop?

I've said before- a venue themed pin that enables Stern to sell music packs (stealing the projector from Stranger things) as different "artists" to perform would be awesome.

Hell, sell it to the user via their IC.

Encore wizard mode, drop target merch sale multiplier, mosh pit multiball, ticket sales (something like Rollercoaster Tycoon's ticket sale thing).

Big stage mech with the ability to lock balls on top? Balcony stage dive VUK/180 habitrail?

Enable longevity in sales nickel and diming everyone for albums/tours from different artists.

Wick will be current, so what is next. Here is the rumor image from a few months ago. I don't see King Kong or D&D on it. Maybe Indy and He Man is being replaced with Kong and D&D.

What makes people think non pinball folks are gonna jump right in and buy a Pokémon or Hello Kitty pin?

#1 people who don’t play pinball would be shocked at how much a machine costs.

#2. Those same people suck at pinball and could care less about becoming a pinball wizard. They play and collect normal Pokémon shit

#3. We live in an alternate universe of pinball. Same people are buying and selling all these same games. Not real world stuff.

Finally, the buddies you think would buy one would be offset by the crowd of ordinary buyers that buys games simply won’t.

Tee em up. Let’s go. Hard pass here.

Looks like my money is safe for years to come. There is only one out of all of those that I would even consider, and it's from a company I would never give money too. Oh well, looks like a great time to start buying used games on my wish list.

WINNIE THE POOH

Internet links are fun!

They sure are! It should be easy to find one out there showing how whatever theme one has a preference for is more popular than Pokémon. Just like it’s easy to find a ‘scientific’ study to counter a ‘scientific’ study one doesn’t agree with. Never knew Pooh was so popular, a great anecdote to keep in the back pocket for some conversation amongst men.

Quoted from Jaytech10:

I don't know what accessories/mods would add up to cost $1500 to $2500. premiums are $9500. 1200 or so if you did the 5 things you mentioned. That would only put it at $10.7k and the only thing missing would be the true back glass from a stock le stand point.

I see your point, but something else to consider is the overall resale value is favoring the LE. We don’t keep these forever. Yeah, some LE’s don’t hold so well, but still sell more than a modded-out premium. I am not into LE’s (i have only Foo LE), but just wanted to throw this into the mix.

Winnie the Pooh has been around for a hundred years. What the bear doesn’t bring to the table is a multi generational obsession where actual value is cast into the wind. It will sell to non pinballers like Toy Story only fantasized about…

Is that true over the last few years? Seems like FFLE, Bond Le, Venom LE, AIQ LE have all dropped significantly in value

I've said this before, but I would be willing to bet that most pinball enthusiasts under the age of 45 would be incredibly excited about a Pokemon pinball machine. I'm 39 years old and that's a NIB day-one purchase for me if Stern does it right. The first games came out in the US in 1998, it's a 26 year old property. The demographic that wants machines based on The Rat Patrol is eventually going to diminish.

Agree will all this.

Pokémon will bomb on sales.

Pokémon fans are not buying a $10,000 game. They will play on location for sure, that won't be enough to make Sterns sales targets.

I don't know any pinball men (or even men) under 45 into Pokémon or that have ever talked about it.

Pokemon is truly Schrodinger's IP: the highest grossing media franchise in the world yet also unpopular and doomed to failure.

I know a bunch of younger (and here I'm speaking relatively) pinheads who are interested in the theme. It's familiar to virtually everyone who has played video games in the last quarter century.

Not yet. I don't know if any more will pop up before tomorrow. Looks pretty cool though. Kinda looks like Ghostbusters in the back...This is such a cool theme. Hope it awesome and I can pick one up down the road.

Edit...looks like it will have expression lighting...

I asked my 3 kids (14, 16) if they wanted me to get a Pokemon pinball machine. They all literally laughed and asked if I was kidding. I said apparently they are making one, but I'm too old to have an opinion....both boys said what about Top Gun instead

#47539 4 months ago

I think you don't know much about Pokemon.
It's by far the #1 IP in the world. Makes Star Wars looks small.

The Pokemon CARD collecting is 4 and 5 figures easy on a LOT of stuff. It isn't an issue with people paying that for a pinball machine.

Pokemon games/graded market for Nintendo GBA/GBC/GB is wild. I really don't think you realize the reach that Nintendo and Pokemon have.

Meant more to super collectors of Star Wars stuff. It’s a perfect theme for pinball collectors but I doubt many Star Wars collectors bought one.

#47547 4 months ago

Thinking pokemon won't sell great but ok with John wick being made is bizarre logic to me.

#47548 4 months ago

I sincerely think that JJP saying they are expecting to reveal their next game at IAAPA in Orlando is the biggest hint that it's Harry Potter rather than The Matrix.

IAAPA is not a normal pinball release kind of show. Other than being at the biggest Harry Potter fan location in the world I can't see why they would release in Orlando rather than at Expo.

May just be semi-wishful thinking. I'd like to see both of them very much. They're holding some heavy hitting licenses.

My wife is under 45 and has no interest in this. She does want princess bride, heman and if a SpongeBob pin was made then I’d be in trouble as my daughter would love it. Maybe it’s a 25 to 40 demographic thing.
