Neither Beatles not Batman ‘66 were cornerstone releases. That are also not similar to each other.

#3402 4 years ago
Quoted from ALY:

Only one deserves the title JAWS.

What about Jaws 2, with a contractually obligated Roy Scheider, that nerd from Christine - Keith Gordon, and a bunch of teens sailing tiny boats. Oh, and Jaws chewing on an underwater power cable. Zap! Or Jaws 3, with Bess Armstrong, Dennis Quaid and Louis Gossett Jr. and HILARIOUS 3-D effects...or Jaws 4 with...Michael Caine and...Mario Van Peebles??? Ellen Brody is convinced the shark is seeking revenge on her family. For reasons. It doesn't get much worse than Jaws 4.

Seriously tho, I do hope Stern makes a Jaws pin, but I heard a rumor that a Stern insider said Jaws, Beetlejuice and Superman are NOT happening this year. Sad, if true. I was looking forward to Jaws and Superman.

Quoted from Pinkitten:

They should have gone with the original title of "JAWS 3, People 0" and done the comedy they wanted to. The 3D version was just trash.

All the sequels are pretty bad. Pure cash grabs. By the way, which pinball machine features that prominent call out??? "CASH GRAB!!!" I owned that pin for about a month and I can still hear that call out in my head.

Michael Caine on Jaws 4:

“Somebody said, 'Have you ever seen Jaws 4?' I said, 'No. But I've seen the house it bought for my mum. It's fantastic!'"

#3406 4 years ago

Jaws 1 (the Jaws) was fantastic - an all time classic in horror and cinema.

Jaws 2 was bearable - after that they are atrocious and embarrassing. Guess the could only get lighting in a bottle on the first one.

But yes, a Jaws pin would be nice to see for sure.

#3407 4 years ago

I honestly don't understand this drumbeat for Jaws on Pinside. It's a good movie, but what about it would make for a good pinball? I don't see it.

I'm in hope for the following:

- Tron Vault ---- Please Stern - in UK so thin on the ground for a nice example
- James Bond - based on Roger Moore
- Rocky Horror Picture Show
- Top Gun

I think there is just fun potential in the theme if you build the game around it. I've thought about it a lot myself. A shark that eats the ball, an upper playfield Orca ship that sinks and becomes accessible from the main playfield, a lower playfield where you're the sharking attacking drop target leg targets, etc.. I love the music and think it's possible to cobble together a dozen good callouts for various things.

I can see why Jaws would seem an odd fit for pinball, despite the broad recognition and theme popularity. But you make a good point with The Shadow. Another is Baywatch. I was sure that Sega theme would make a ridiculous pin. The theme is still kinda silly, but it’s perhaps Sega’s best game, or one of them, in my view.

If they did a Bond they could really make some cool Artwork on the cab, loads of movies + soundtracks to choose from:

Unfortunately there is a whole generation that thinks Goldeneye is the best Bond movie. I blame Nintendo for this.

Best Bond after Perfect Dark.

Bought a N64 just for that.

Maybe they should do a Goldeneye vault edition re-skinned based on the N64 game. Lots of high-quality assets to work with.

I'd actually settle for Connery but Lazenby is a step too far.......

They need to put loads of cool bond girls on the cab to keep the Pinheads happy

Stern might try and cheap out on the license though to save the $$$ and go for Timothy Dalton

#3422 4 years ago
Quoted from KnockerPTSD:

Maybe not the best but the characters/casting and writing is actually quite good.

#3423 4 years ago

Forget about a James Bond machine, a machine based on all the Bondgirls is where all the money's at!

Imagine all the modes, seduce all girls for the final wizard mode

#3424 4 years ago
Quoted from Boat:

Dont get me wrong. I'm a Bond fan
I even like a lot of the bad ones. While Connery and Moore are without arguement the best Bonds, I loves me some Dalton and Brosnan as well. Lazenby only got one for a reason. Daniel Craig is good in his own way as well but feels more Jason Bourne than James Bond.

#3425 4 years ago

I love Bond but I dont think I'd be into a Bond pinball machine unless it was really solid. The theme alone just doesnt feel like pinball to me but I've been happily surprised by other games that I didnt like the theme of

My British repro version above the telly. Love me some old school bond.

I think if Stern went for it they would have to pick 1 Bond - either Connery or Moore.
Incorporate the girls .... of course on the Cab and Trans-lite with an old Aston Martin DB5 / some roulette tables / Walther PPks

Surely the modes + Gameplay would be based around known Villains and travel around the Globe.

Mister Big + Baron Samedi - New Orleans
Scaramanga - China
Max Zorin + May Day - San Francisco

Etc..............

Incorporate all the theme tunes:
Duran, Duran - A view to a Kill
Aha - Living Daylights
Golden Eye - Tina Turner

Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner

Quoted from KnockerPTSD:

You think? Casino Royale was pretty damn true to the book honestly if you've read it. He might actually be my vote for most 'accurate' Bond of them all. If you care about that sort of thing.

Quoted from TreyBo69:

I think there is just fun potential in the theme if you build the game around it. I've thought about it a lot myself. Well first off, you just described a bunch of mechs that won't make their way into a Stern BOM. You'll get a shark bash toy on a spring and a plastic cut out of a boat.

But that aside, what exactly about the film is great for pinball? There's a shark. Okay, cool. Shark toy, check. But what else? There's the one main music theme everyone knows, and I doubt any random person could hum a bar of anything else. There's a lot of quiet moments. There's honestly very little action compared to the running time. Like, can you name 6 scenes that make good and obvious modes? Townspeople arguing mode? Gonna need a bigger boat mode? There's only so much actual OH SHIT A SHARK stuff if you think about it.

It's not that it's a bad film, but it's from an earlier era, it's much more of a psychological thriller than an action movie. There aren't a lot of actual movie clips you can throw up on an LCD.

I dunno, not saying it couldn't be done. There's always a way if you're creative. Just strikes me as an odd choice for people to keep asking for. Like someone said Shadow was a bad choice, and no, it's a bad movie, totally different. Terrible movie, but full of fodder for a pin. The game is actually amazingly faithful to the movie, lots of scenes to work with. Jaws is a way better movie, but just doesn't feel like a great fit for a pin to me.

#3431 4 years ago

Us Aussies love George Lazenby - he was born less than an hour from where I live. He’s still alive and would no doubt do the call outs....

Story wise, yes fairly accurate. (Other than playing poker in the movie because poker is more popular)
Its the character and action sequences that seem less Bond and more Bourne. Bond doesnt fight like parkour Batman (at least in my mind)

That's basically a sizzle reel with no gameplay. They're obfuscating the fact that the machine is a bore by using quick cuts and almost no actual play and sounds of the machine. I don't think it's fixable in software, but we'll see.

#3437 4 years ago

sterns last 2 original themes were can crusher and nelly so for original pinball concepts comic carnival may not be trying to reach too high just trying to get a footing

#3438 4 years ago

I kinda hate to rip on a start up company , its priced like a pro stern model but i don't see a Metallica pro play ability here from those videos , but its a very nice art package , ghost busters has great art and it plays great and has audio I love audio in my pinball machines.

#3439 4 years ago
Quoted from Dragon:

sterns last 2 original themes were can crusher and nelly how does cosmic carnival compare ? are they all just pretty much minimal features

Not an equal comparison. Neither were "original" games. Can Crusher was a license made from the Whoa Nellie game, which was a modified version of the Continental Cafe EM game from the 1950s. Neither was considered a "mainstream" Stern release. Both niche titles on a niche platform.

#3440 4 years ago

Original deeply artisitc themes are cool stuff . but its a risky venture . it seems like half of the pins made in the 80's and 90's were all original themes or goofy knock offs of movies with no license , black knight was original kinda

#3441 4 years ago

they could combine all the rumored themes together like a spaghetti western and have James Bond vs Godzilla vs Jaws and have elvira 3 host it on the back TV screen like a late nite B-rated movie

Good theme would be Bond the same way they did Dr. Who. Different modes/goals for different bonds.

I'm continually shocked pinball manufacturers aren't working with videogame licenses.
Pokémon, Metroid, Resident Evil, Half Life, Halo, Mario Bros, Sonic The Hedgehog, etc etc etc.
So many great titles that are known for big action, have a huge built-in fanbase, and so many assets to work with creatively.

From the 80s you had stabs at it with Q*Bert, Baby Pac, Mr. and Mrs Pacman, Joust. 90s Gottlieb gave us SFII and 2 Mario games. (Rollercoaster Tycoon counts, I guess)
But here we are with pins based off 50-60 year old TV shows and bands doing their long retirements. I love the new titles, but the people that grew up on home video games are now the ones with the careers and midlife crises!

I've seen a lot of griping in forums where people are like "NEW RESIDENT EVIL GAME???" and it's a thread lamenting that the new machine is a Biohazard pachinko from Japan. The pachinko/pachislo industry has done a decent job in tapping the video game world. I think other popular ones were Metal Gear, Castlevania, and Silent Hill.

A lot of that is largely that Konami has been winding down their video game divisions in favor of their more profitable pachinko business. They're the ones who own Metal Gear, Castlevania, Silent Hill, etc.

Japan has an interesting pachinko law that they must be regularly changed out every few years. Imagine if Stern could get a similar law passed...

Slot machines. Konami has pachinko, but they are laser focused on slot machines because of the non-niche appeal and fountain of money that comes with a hit. Makes video games look like chump change, and a lot less work.

And a pic from my pachinko, based on thr black lagoon anime.
Neat peace of decoration but pointless to play

thanks for showing the links there is sound with cosmic carnaval , as far as things going on in the pin i noticed a bunch of inserts with multicolored leds more than just game play indicators they seem to be apart of the light show . the music is hard metal like with a guy playing the bent saw w/mallet like it was a lead guitar . it has a flow with 2 ramps and a center loop w/ spinners and maybe 2 banks of switches and maybe a center gobble hole . it has a strange vibe to it after a while of watching and at times it seemed more like a piece of art that could be played , they need to show how the game is played for scoring it may need something additional maybe in software upgrades
