The reviews are good:
as i understand it, this import is a sort-of-bootleg, sort-of-fan-cut mashup of a 1080p D-theatre transfer, which is a far cry better than the official 480i/p DVD. (the DVD was made for widescreen *on 4:3 TVs*, which means it has black bars on four sides & has to be zoomed in with your tv's aspect settings, & thus looks even worse.) i believe the audio is from the laserdisc version. there's no official blu ray yet because, from what i can discern, james cameron simply has other priorities.
that said: the video quality is wonderful - i can see the film grain on the BD instead of the compression on the DVD - & the 5.1 DTS-HD audio is even better. it's a pressed disc & i wouldn't have known its history if i hadn't been researching it specifically (after being so disappointed by the lousy DVD release). if you enjoyed this movie & want to see it at its best available, THIS is the disc to purchase. enjoy!
