Quoted from luvthatapex2:

ok, I just checked out Sebastian Bach, Brendon Small and the NIght Flight Orchestra and all artists have made Heavy Metal songs that have nothing to do with the Heavy Metal film in the 80s or 2000 for that matter. So this is going to be a "Heavy Metal" soundtrack of metal songs and probably some original graphics to go with the title. Boooooooo no Heavy Metal movie pinball. Very misleading.

Stern? Mislead people? Impossible.

#6952 4 years ago

This is really starting to sound like a purely contracted out game like Supreme was, with Stern only supplying the platform.....

Quoted from luvthatapex2:

What part of Stern's announcement mentioned a movie? Just because a bunch of you guys grew up smoking weed to softcore cartoon porn (with a decidedly non-metal soundtrack) doesn't discount the hundreds of issues of the magazine it's based on.

Sounds good to me.

$8299?

#6956 4 years ago

Yeah I got the same number from my guy. Must be an amazing pin

Oh damn... I knew Heavy Metal was a magazine/brand outside of the movie but that's a big disappointment if it's not movie art/assets Could still be a cool pin though, definitely an interesting one for a contract job.

You guys aren't messing around they are asking for $8299 for this?

#6963 4 years ago

That is the art for a custom made Heavy Metal retheme, not the albatross monstrosity we're about to see from Stern.

#6964 4 years ago
Quoted from Darscot:

You guys aren't messing around they are asking for $8299 for this?

Those passive two ball locks are expensive to make .

#6965 4 years ago

Will they include more node boards so both sling coils don't fire at the same time like Star Wars "The Pin"?

#6966 4 years ago

Sebastian Bach? Oh, man--I'm in!

#6967 4 years ago

$8299 - The Chameleon paint is really expensive.
Comes from the same factory that makes rocking horse shit.

Heavy Metal is a magazine. I know most of us associate the title with the animated movie - but that’s not what’s being made here. This is for fans of the magazine.

Supreme was $10k and didn't get the extra node board, so you can bet your last dollar this game won't have independent slings.

it's pretty much lumped together. Most fans of the movie during the 80's were also fans of the magazine. The movie was also based on several issues of the magazine. The movie is more popular in the mainstream.

Pass...what else ya got Stern?

#6972 4 years ago

Funny now that this is announced I wonder what happened to this reference from Wikipedia

"In 2017, upstart pinball company PinHeadz LLC hinted that they had secured the right to use the Heavy Metal license in a physical pinball table; the table itself will be designed through a collaboration between PinHeadz, the pinball artist Zombie Yeti (known for his work on tables such as Stern's Ghostbusters) and legendary pinball designer Pat Lawlor, who has designed games such as Twilight Zone and The Addams Family. Is the excitement so low for this that no one has opened a thread for this game?

If anyone is excited to spend $8k on a home edition reskin, by all means, start a thread!

Supreme this is not. Big swing and a miss.

#6977 4 years ago

I bet JWOWW from Jersey Shore is doing callouts on this. There has to be a reason they booked her for the Stern Pro Circuit Championships which happen to take place the day after this game is released/revealed.

It’s not a title that would have sold well as a mainstream release. This is an easy way to use up some Star Wars Home parts & keep the line moving. Even if they sell 50, it’s pure profit.

And they are being built to order so it's pretty risk free for Stern.

Quoted from AttackFromPhilly:

Oh yeah I missed the built to order. I think if they announce a cap number or date for when they stop taking orders, that will get a few out the door.

#6981 4 years ago
Quoted from AttackFromPhilly:

I thought the contract pins like Primus and this were paid for in full by the customer who then sold them for whatever they could get. So Stern does a small run, which is presold and paid in full. So the stock risk is with the customer who contracted the run.

#6982 4 years ago
Quoted from AttackFromPhilly:

You'd think they have to agree to at least a minimum number of games. Can't be worth Stern's time to order a dozen playfields, plastics sets, translites, cabinet art, etc... even if they can just slot it on the same production line as Star Wars Home and they're making like a few grand in profit off each game.

I would guess they ordered 100 and have the option to do another 50-100 if the demand is there.

Yeah, I should have said no risk instead of little risk.
The flyer says made to order so it sounds like Incendium will take orders and then order that many machines from Stern.

I hope we see chameleon armor on more titles.

If I was rich I'd be all over this thing. There's gotta be at least 100 wealthy Heavy Metal fans who'll pony up eight grand for a cool hunk of nostalgia.

Yet Star Wars Home Edition didn't set the world on fire and there are way more wealthy Star Wars fans that could pony up four grand for a cool toy.

(I guess Star Wars Pro/Prem/LE ate into some of those sales, but still. It's Star Wars. It's the most popular fictional franchise in the world that transcends multiple generations)

I'm sure Stern has a minimum order quantity, so maybe 50 or so minimum, and if Incendium finds enough suckers to fork over $8299 to get over 50 orders, they bump the order plus a few extra. This seems like a weird contract order, but it's Incendium's money, so I'm sure Stern is fine with taking it.

Star Wars fans aren't exactly underserved for expensive collectibles. But your point is well taken. Fandom doesn't necessarily equal sales.

Good point I didn't think of that because I don't think I've ever even seen the magazine.

Those are songs from the movie. This isn’t based on the movie. It’s based on the magazine the movie was based on.

Still it could have been a great story coming together as a music pin but license would have killed it hehehe

Anyone know when Jurassic Park goes back on the line? Premium or Pro?

#6996 4 years ago

Wait a minute this is Star Wars home edition reskinned with new art, a dmd instead of an lcd and a coin door.

If so then how the hell is this $8299 when Star Wars Home was like $4499!?!

It's a contract pin. Stern doesn't set the price or sell it to end users. Incendium pays Stern for the minimum run of machines in full, and Incendium (not Stern) sells those machines to their fans/users for whatever they can get.

Common sense is not allowed here!

Exactly. Same reason why Supreme was 10k. Stern charges x per machine to the guys who own the brand and want the pin made, who then sell it for y. Not complicated.

Good to know I thought Stern where having a laugh with this one. On that note apologies Stern and Incendium can go swivel on my middle finger instead
