Pacific Rim's got the goods to make a great pin.

Don’t shoot the messenger but I am telling you that Warner Bros / DC is actively in talks to get a machine made to go along with one or more their upcoming releases. I’m assuming those talks are with Stern. Of the 4 movies in the pipe I think Wonder Woman 1984 is the most viable but Harley Quinn (Birds of Prey) and another Batman title would also work. I think the dark horse is Suicide Squad 2 but that also has Harley Quinn in it so who knows. You hear things working in LA.

#5603 4 years ago

Space Jam 2 is my darkhorse. Or whatever that Melissa McCarthy holding a cat movie is. Weren't there rumors of a scooby doo pinball machine?

Tom and Jerry could be entertaining. Having Uncle Pecos singing is a must have.

Quoted from Tranquilize:

I have IM next to IMDN. The quality difference is absolutely insane. I can touch maiden with my pinky, and the whole machine shakes. I have to use both hands aggressively to do the same to IM. I wish Stern would reverse course on the cost cutting (bring back the older PSU with button in the right place, a knocker etc etc.) as I am sad that I can't support them anymore.
I guess this is a good time to ask: has anyone added weights into the cab of newer sterns?

My AS is the same way

I can see why. The plywood is not the same. It's plain as day. Instead of many wood layers its just a few with a ton of weird filler shit between wood.

Plywood is so weak on some games the PF goes crooked & flexes if the cabinet isn't 100% level. I can tilt my older Stern games sideways a good bit without that happening.

Someone posted in another thread Stern is back to using legit plywood in their cabinets & they're robust again. I would wait & see if its across the board first tho

I noticed that too when playing - the new ones seem very light to me.

Of course I have a Hobbit - and it feels as heavy as a parked car... no joke. It is really hard to move with even a hard nudge while playing.

I still would not mind having a Stern, but it would be nice to get the quality back to what it was.

That's why I bought an ACNC. Solid like the old days and perfect cc.

I'll take your poorly built Star Trek if you are unhappy with it

Star Trek was built when the game still had the weight and power switch in the correct location. No issue with Star Trek!

No, that one is built pretty good. It's the new spike 2's being talked about here. I notice a difference between them. My Spooky is more solid.
But I did spend $65.00 to install f'ing service rails on ST. That was cost cutting retardation! Glad enough people bitched and they no longer do this on Pro's.

#5613 4 years ago

I checked out my games after reading this and yeah, Iron Maiden feels a lot flimsier than even Ghostbusters from just a couple years earlier. Never really noticed but wow theres really a big difference in the weight and solid-ness (solidity?) between those two games. Maidens cabinet does feel pretty puny. I wonder if thats why I have so much trouble with scraping the inside of the Maiden cabinet every damn time I lift the playfield, perhaps the cabinet is sitting twisted slightly from being so lightweight.

I am getting concerned about the BOM getting cheaper and less quality over time - yet the prices are going up and up. Stern have fun games for sure - but they really need to get the build quality back to what it was. I am sure Stern will release a vault or a new pin (Stranger Things for example) that I really want and I have to decide if I ignore the quality and just buy it anyway. I guess I am just concerned.

People do vote with their wallet...And the Stern business is going by that..People are willing to pay for it they continue to price where they price..

And why would it?

JP released with clear coat and art literally peeling off the playfield, Stern where silent, no one knew what was going on with the playfields or if they would get a bad one, yet people where still falling over themselves and each other to buy one.

Are you suggesting that we vote with our wallet because we own the game however we have not reviewed it on pinside?

Pinball making is a business..They won't change unless people stop buying...People as you can see by my list are buying..They don't care about pinside reviews..It does not pay their bills and it's subjective anyway..

Oh I see. I think it is probably a bit of both. Completely shit reviews on games would stop people from buying, so like most businesses you need to pay attention to everything.

Thank you for explaining.

That's what I hear on Pinside and the one operator we have in town bought all 3 remakes (standard editions). I have played them many times and they seem solid for sure.

Marvel has Black Widow and DC another Wonder Woman coming out. A new Matrix movie is coming and a Tolkien TV series based off the Similarion. Just a thought.

Imagine this (for better or for worse) if a stranger things pin were to be made, in corporate the technology already available. Motion detection tied in to magnets. Ella mode would allow you to throw balls by commanding magnets. No one has done this before in the pin industry. Hell, for that matter since another Matrix is on the way that would be the PERFECT game to use that with.
