Who's up on the rotation - Brian Eddy? Hope so!

#5052 4 years ago
Quoted from Halfwasted:

Makes me think if I want to support Stern.

Quoted from Rager170:

Never make purchasing decisions based on emotions but for the product itself.

I was always told never make decisions when you're half wasted.

Quoted from Halfwasted:

Anyone listen to the Kaneda podcast with Chris Franchi. Gary Stern sounds like a real character and not a nice employer. Makes me think if I want to support Stern, especially after the playfield fiasco.

I’m still digesting all of that podcast but I can tell you that’s not been my experience at all. Gary is actually very nice and personable. But - I’m sure it has everything to do with the fact I have never tried to sell my work that they paid the usage rights for.

No professional artist I know ascribes to what I heard on that podcast, btw.

Also - Greg absolutely has a personality and a great sense of humor (he did write the majority of all Elvira games after all iirc).

So weird that at all turns he felt victimized after admitting to insisting his behavior he was asked to change (selling his stern art) was ok 70 times? They only have to say no once. You signed a contract. Bizarre to me.

So much incorrect info in that podcast... I don’t get it - But he unfriended me long ago with no reason and wouldn’t speak to me at expo...

#5054 4 years ago
Quoted from RA77:

Ha Ha, Don't get me wrong
I love Tim Curry
I thought JB might a a great choice for a pin
But Frank n furter mmmm....... Wild

Oh shit, A RHPS pin would be awesome. I might have to try to get one if Stern did a god job. It should be popular now days.

You're one of the good ones. I admire your ability to speak up and set the record straight but also to know when its not worth engaging with the haters. Thanks for posting here.

Lots of people sure do say “ I would buy (Theme XXX) sight unseen!” and “Take my money!” and “This title would be an insta- buy for me!” Because of this mindset, no matter what the next Stern is its:

A: probably going to have a price increase
B: certainly going to have incomplete code
C: likely going to suffer from quality control issues

None of these problems are ever going to go away with people consistently throwing large sums of money at a product they have never even actually seen or for that matter, a product that hasnt even been reviewed by any actual consumers. Whatever happened to demanding a proven quality product that has been adequately tested and performs properly out of the box?
If people were a bit more patient and didnt buy, say, all 400 LE models of a game before its even been released or reviewed maybe Stern would put a bit more effort into these games before putting them out.

The hell you say? That makes too much sense. You are talking to people with money falling out of their ass however. They can buy any toy they want. That 8K aint no thang.

#5058 4 years ago

Totally agree. Not sure how much change from Stern we would expect if people are tripping on themselves to hand over whatever Stern is asking for, regardless of condition, for the next pin if it's your 'dream theme'.

QC down, prices up! Who cares?! It's all about fun, and you only live once. It makes it hard on the buyers that are hoping for a better product and slowing down the crazy price climbing.

Teddy Roosevelt pinball. With bears and mountains and rough riders. He died 100 years ago so it's fair game

Great idea but, Stern tends to do themes that are only 50 years out of date.

Speaking of.... How about Night At The Museum? Lots of shit to do there.

#5062 4 years ago

Steamboat Willie becomes public domain 1/1/2024. Stern could then officially come out and say they make mickey mouse pins.

Well said! I got soooo lucky that my first NIB (and was new to collecting) was STLE and its an amazing pin, but the wait for good code was ridiculous. Thankfully they delivered very nicely. After GBLE, which I flipped within the year I swore never again NIB. I just got a slightly used Aerosmith and couldnt be happier:
1) not being the first guy on the block with the NIB
2) getting a new pin after code has been developed

I will never get a NIB again... unless its...

#5064 4 years ago

Two ideas I had that would be unique:

- Cthulhu Mythos
- MegaMan (each boss/stage being a mode)

Wait what?!

Weren't you kinda friends a year ago when he took your Twippy?

Didn't he not recently describe Kaneda as a *randominsult* for reporting bs of his person?

And now it's the other way around and the only way for him to get heard is on the 'outcast' podcast?

People srsly need to need to self reflect sometimes, this sounds like someone in a divorce or siblings fighting in court over their parents money - each one completely right... they think.

And while I don't know any contracts (were the usage rights exclusive?) you NEVER talk about an employer that way. NOT (only) because of NDA but because every new employer will know that you're possibly hurting the company's image in public.

Pee Wee’s Playhouse pinball

Spot on. Well this really tainted my view on Franchi. Love his work, thought he was alright until this podcast.

I get tired of the “Gary, is a evil person.” He and his father operated successfully survived business. They employ people and make money. They kept pinball alive and sometimes it won’t make everyone happy. Get over it.

Franchi, has a myopic view on comic art. If Gary let’s any infringing on a agreed usage, it could jeopardize any future dealings or complications for negotiations of licensing with any potential themes. Stern will be viewed, not be a trusted partner. They are obligated to protect the IP usage agreements from contractually hired talent that exploit it for financial gain of bolster quick cash. It’s not a comic con portfolio type of sell. This art was specific to the original usage for Stern and its product.

Greg has lots humor. He is professional. He is your art director. It’s business.

#5069 4 years ago

Hmm, sounds like he just doesn't want to be somebody's bitch. I respect that.

#5070 4 years ago

Franchi has always come off as an egomaniac at best. Whatever new shit stirring he's done on Kaneda should come as no surprise.

Can't believe ZY posted in this thread and didn't tell us what the next game is. Come on, bro!

Wonder if a Pee Wee game would have flashers ...

I might also be in on a Stranger Things pin, if it was done well.

and the playfield isn't pooling and cracking. I'd be in on JP right now but won't buy anything NIB until we know these problems have been fixed for good.

Boy, you guys dont let something go huh? lol. I dont think id go so far as to call him a pervert for wacking off in an xrated movie theater movie showing. Id bet 99.9% of the people who go to view that stuff are doing the same thing.

#5079 4 years ago

I said that somewhat as a joke but his whole show was nothing but sexual innuendo and I do see spanking the monkey in a public theatre somewhat perverted. The guy obviously had some kinks that he liked to air in public.

Well, most people dont realize that the Pee Wee Herman show was originally an adult show with tons of sexual references which was on HBO. That transformed into Pee Wee's Playhouse which was the kids show.

When I think pervert, I think someone taking advantage of women, kids, flashing people... but I hear ya haha.

#5081 4 years ago

Chris Franchi is 100% right.

There are a lot of pinball themes that would SLAY on location like Power Rangers, Pee-Wee's Playhouse, Spongebob... but they'll never get made because 70 year old men don't wanna make them and 50 year old men won't buy then.

Times are changing. As you can see, the people who grew up loving 80's themes are now becoming those who are doing the purchases and that will only get stronger. Seems like this thread has been dominated lately by 80's ideas for pins..

I did not know this. Pee Wee was never my thing. It was always weird and kinda creepy, like Teletubbies. I had a buddy that loved him but this guy also loved to walk up to a strange woman and say, in a soft voice," Tickle your ass with a feather" and when she would ask him what the fuck he just said he would say, " Typical nasty weather" and then wait for her reaction. He got the shit slapped out of him a few times.

I don't want to start a whole tirade on the subject but there should be a special place in hell for people who hurt women and children and, some might disagree, animals. People who do this should be beaten severely. That being said, a woman who falsely accuses a man should face the same penalty he would for trying to ruin his life. Now Im done on this subject.

Arrested but not charged for possession of child pornography.

After the JT scandal, Stern wouldn't go near this as a licence.

People suggest 80's or older themes because that's all that seems to get released lately. Just getting tired of the out dated material. JP2 90s,Munsters-60s, Bksof-80s, Beatles-60s, Starwars-timeless but still 70s and 80s, Bm66-60s duh, IMDN, As, Met, ACDC- were popular in 80s and 90s, Kiss-70s. GB gets a pass because it was released with the new movie.

Deadpool, GOTG, GoT, and Walking Dead are the only games to be based on a popular theme at release date. This of course is just the last several years. You could include Tron, Avatar, Transformers, etc. Those would be in the 6 to 7 year old range just before they started this slide into the past.

I've never been to a X-rated movie theater but let's just say that while the audience would mostly be comprised of pervs, I doubt your math that 99.9% of those there are doing that. Fairly safe bet there may be public health issues and laws that strongly discourage such behavior.

Perv or not, I never liked Pee Wee Herman and certainly wouldn't want a pin reminding me of

Why else would anyone go to see an X rated movie besides to get themselves off? And having the cops setup a sting for that movie theater because of those movies.

I know Pee Wee's Playhouse isnt a theme for anyone by any means.

Where we can agree is that a Pee Wee Herman pin is a non-starter. Hopefully Stern kills that plan now that Pinside has spoken.
