GWAR Girl could come out and jack a giant penis, covering the playfield in semen.
Don't wear nice clothes to a GWAR show, BTW. You will get sprayed with some bodily fluid.
Quoted from benheck:
Besides the iconic album covers (art does not equal theme just ask JPOP) could someone please explain to me why IRON MAIDEN is the must-have music basic pin?
Maiden, The Dwarves and Motorhead are the only three oldies rock bands that kept their balls.
They never did any disco, grunge, pop, synth string ballads, tours with Adam Lambert or Sammy Hagar.
They still make GREAT albums, not crappy discs with a bunch of guest stars.
Hard Rock bands (the kind of bands that old pinballers would likely like), generally don't have #1 hit albums.
In the last 50 years, the only hard rock bands to have the #1 album of the year were:
1968 The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Are You Experienced
1969 Iron Butterfly, n-A-Gadda-Da-Vida
1976 Peter Frampton, Frampton Comes Alive
No Zep, no Ozzy, no Maiden, no Van Hagar, no Motorhead, no Nirvana.....
The kind of artists that DO have the #1 album of the year are:
2003 50 Cent
2005 Mariah Carey
2007 Josh Groban
2008 Lil Wayne
2009 Taylor Swift
2013 Justin Timberlake
2014 Taylor Swift
Do you want a pinball machine based on any of them?
Quoted from woody24:
How about the Foo Fighters!
Foo Fighters are OK, but they are just another generic corporate rock band.
They went around on their TV show to all different cities and recording studios, but instead of picking up any local flavors or influences, they seem to keep recording the same song with the same sound, again and again....
I want to love them, but in the end they are just background music at Applebees
Quoted from woody24:
I think I'd find it frustrating if a band changed their style for every song.
I just would have loved if they did an Orleans sound while in NO, a NYC punk sound while in NY, a fun LA Glam throwback while in LA, a soulful tune while recording in Detroit, an alt-country blast while in Austin.....I think they squandered a great opportunity.
Take Led Zep, I enjoy when they do some Muddy Waters rip off blues, then some Middle Eastern drenched Kashmir, then some spooky No Quarter, then straight ahead Rock N' Roll.
Take Bowie; get your fill of space rock, then some blue-eye soul from Young Americans, then some electronica with Scary Monsters, the silly fun of Pin-Ups, the new wavishness of Let's Dance.
Or The Dwarves, choke on some some giant synth rez with FEFU, some fun pop culture with Do The Sponge, some Beach Boy harmony with One Time Only, some galloping metal on Demonica, or some under the influence Iggy growl on You Got To Burn.
All these great bands can play lots of musical styles, but there is no mistaking what band is playing on the radio.
20 years of Foo, let's expand the horizons a little bit!
Quoted from Baiter:
Maybe the better question is why the youngest band in the poll formed 34 years ago.
The last iconic rock band was Nirvana, 28 years ago.
Behind the Music killed iconic mystery of the **Rock God**, by exposing all those artists for what they were....so there will likely never be another.
Quoted from Baiter:
I can't see how BTM exposed anything that people didn't know.. rock stars are well known dysfunctional people, which becomes the source material for their music.
You WANT rock stars to be dysfunctional madmen.
When you see them just selling women's shoes, it kind of takes the interest out of it all.
I like my rock stars crazy or dead.
Misfits are huge.
Every single wanabee has a Crimson Ghost tshirt, skateboard, pantyhose, tattoo.....would anybody argue that there are not at least a million of those tshirts in the world?
Quoted from sparechange1974:
Is it possible that Stern's next music pin will be a re-release..AC/DC, but a different version?
AC/DC was modern Sterns best selling game ever.
Garry said that the license has expired.
It would have been cheaper to renew the license than to re-license it altogether, so it seems doubtful that there will be any more AC/DCs.
Snake River Conspiracy "Vulcan"
Sucking on your brains like the zombies I want to revive
You could talk me into fncking you, but I don't think you'd survive
Quoted from Erik:
I hadn't watched a music video in years, but there is a lot going on in this one! Highly amused!
Can you imagine what the budget was for that video??
Or can you imagine when directors Boyd and Ranasinghe , after doing all those crappy Shina Twain and Lionel Richie videos, got the call to work with Deadmau5, Gerard Way, 2500 extras and two 100 foot tall robots?
Making of video:
Now that Kim Jong Un is having Laibach be the first rock band to tour North Korea, is it actually time for a Laibach pin?
Should we look to the cheap labor of North Korea to supply us with an affordable music pin?
Quoted from TOK:
There is something about their music that sounds like a bunch of stuff copied from other bands all stuck together. I don't know if generic is the right word to describe it.
In the music biz, we call that word "Corporate Album Oriented Rock".
Think of all the interchangeable, background music bands that have hits, but no cock: Nickelback, Hootie & the Blowfish, Goo Goo Dolls, Creed, Train, Smash Mouth....Go back a generation and then you have: Phil Collins, ASIA, Winger, Warrant, Kenny G
There is nothing inherently wrong with any of those bands (other than they suck), but they simply are the boxed wine of the music industry.
Quoted from titanpenguin:
New kids on the block....... it would bring a huge influx of women to the hobby in a heartbeat.
Although there are a few women in pinball, it's just not a hobby that most women are interested it.
If it were, every woman over 35 would own The Shadow just to twiddle off to Baldwin.
Quoted from mof:
Is any of this information relevant to attracting a youthful 2015 audience?
1. Last Beatles album was 45 years ago.
2. Last real Zep album was 36 years ago.
3. Last real eagles album (although they are not a rock band) was 40 years ago.
5. Last real Van Halen album was 31 years ago.
That stuff is not only "your grandfather's rock" some of it is your great-grandfather's rock.....

In hindsight...I wish I would of put Jimi in the poll instead of Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Yeah, America's Swastika is probably not selling real well right now

Stern should do a "Sad Synthesizers of Rock" pin, where they take bands that formerly rocked but then added synthesizers to try to appeal to teenage girls:
They could add a super bonus wizard mode that has bands who re-recorded their songs with full philharmonic sludge:
Kids don't even have a favorite band anymore.
I ask my teen cousins what's their favorite band and they just shrug "Whatever is on the radio".
It used to be every teen had their favorite band and they would draw their logo on their notebook, on their gym bag, explain the meaning of every lyric....rock music has faded away.
Quoted from o-din:
The band Cage The Elephant has stated that with their next album they are going to prove rock and roll is not dead.
That sounds good to me.
I'd love to be blown away by a new album like I was when I first heard Maiden's Number of the Beast, Nick Cave's Abattoir Blues, Iggy Pop's New Values, The Pixie's Doolittle, The Clash self-titled, Metric's Live it Out, or the Stones Goat's Head Soup.
Quoted from o-din:
But yeah, who on here has heard of those guys except me.
If you turn on any Alternative radio station in OH, the only thing they play is Cage. Ain't No Rest for the Wicked is probably played every 1/2 hour, and Shake Me Down once a hour.
They are a super popular band, but they are not icons like The Stones, AC/DC, Maiden....or even the aforementioned Foghat.
Quoted from kporter946286:
There is just no money in Rock anymore so not really worth doing it IMO.
But Urban and Country music continues to sell well.
Everyone knows who Beyonce, Drake, Jay Z and Nicki Minaj are.
They are icons that even old white guys know.
If I asked any black guys my age to name me a rock band after Nirvana, do you think they could think of even a single band?
Quoted from TOK:
I know the names, but couldn't name one song by any of them.
That's EXACTLY my point.
Even an old white guy knows all the urban recording artists.
Could your mom name ANY rock band after Nirvana?
Yet, I bet she knows who Nicki Minaj is.
Not a single iconic rock band in 28 years = rock is dead.
Quoted from o-din:
I remember going to a stereo store and to test out some very large speakers the guy put on Slow Ride and cranked it up all the way.
I think most of the stereo stores died out when rock died out, lol.
It's funny that Slowride is always chosen from that album, but the title track, Save your Love, and Drive Me Home are better songs.
Quoted from Gerrard17:
I think it's best to avoid popular culture / music and has been for awhile, I feel sorry for my kids.
Every generation hates the last generation's music.
Guys in their 40's hate the Beatles, kids today hate Metallica.
You can find a few exceptions, but no one wants to identify with their grandfather's music.
Quoted from Gerrard17:
With regards to rock being dead, I think it still exists but publicizing your music these days is so easy with the internet that those real rock bands who stick to the ethos of honing their art in a garage and touring touring touring to get their break can't get any attention with kids who grow up getting their feed of music via you tube.
But why don't ROCK bands get any internet traction?
Country musicians play in barns and garages, honing their skills, they get tons of publicity. They even get their own awards show (Country Music Awards)
Rappers rap at parties and dance halls, honing their skills, they get tons of publicity. They even get their own awards show (Hip Hop Awards Show).
There has not been a Rock Awards show since 1978.
Quoted from jimy_speedt:
I see that the results of the poll show Iron Maiden in first position. I presume it is linked to the art of their albums.
The Art is good, but the fast, galloping music is what would make for a great pinball machine.
Maiden was a strange crossover band that was part Punk, part Metal.
Many of the bands people have proposed in this thread are WAY too slow to play pinball to.
Quoted from jints56:
How about a music pin with no licensed music. Hand drawn art and cheap tunes. Customize tunes with play Niall browser to your liking!
Quoted from TheLaw:
but I know tons of his songs from classic rock stations...far more than someone like Iron Maiden
There was a rift between Maiden's management and Clearchannel, so Maiden has not been in rotation for many years in the USA.
But in the rest of the world, they are the the biggest thing around.
Among the items that he lost in his flooded basement were irreplaceable items such as SKID ROW master tapes, a KISS pinball machine and other band memorabilia.
"How I wish there was a reason to do a [SKID ROW] box set or something before Hurricane Irene hit," he wrote in a Facebook post at the time. "Nobody cared. Now it's too late. Don't know what you got 'till it's gone, indeed."
It's funny how Sebastian tries to imply that the Skid Row "master tapes" were lost in the flood.
There is no way in hell that Atlantic Records gave the master tapes from any of the Skid Row albums to Bach, because aging rock stars might do stupid things with them - like store them in a basement.....
Quoted from PinCrush:
IMO, best throwback hard rock album from last year was Black Star Riders. The whole thing is killer. Thin Lizzy fans see below
Their song "Soldiertown" is almost exactly Thin Lizzy's "Emerald", note for note.
If you like Lizzy, you will like their reincarnation as BSR.
Quoted from ahdelarge:
Serious question now, are allegations alone, enough to stop a company from creating a pinball machine featuring Michael Jackson?
America's FBI says that MJ paid 24 parents a total of 35 million dollars in hush money.
(you'd think that after paying off the first kid's parents, you would stop having sleepovers with 7 year old boys in your bed; and not reach for another 23 more....)
Gary Stern is rather conservative; he's not going to touch a MJ pin with a pony spotted pole.
Quoted from Agent_Hero:
Why not do a decades/generations of music/Billboard Hot 100 over the years kindl Hank Williams, work your way to Elvis, Beatles, 70's, 80's...just iconic songs of all genres over decades...like a quasi-jukebox pin. It would probably work best with technology to make the layout kinda fluid--like drop target X isn't marked by the face of Elvis Presley, but it's actually a target that appears differently based on the era or mode you are currently playing in. Maybe that's too high tech, too much Virtual Pin nonsense. Oh, and I demand a huge-ass WOZ style screen showing music videos as the action happens.
According to Billboard:
#1 artist 1940s: Bing Crosby
#1 artist 1950s: Elvis (who already has a pin)
#1 artist 1960s: The Beatles
#1 artist 1970s: Elton John (who already has a pin)
#1 artist 1980s: Prince
#1 artist 1990s: Mariah Carey
#1 artist 2000s: Eminem
#1 artist 2010s: Taylor Swift (so far)
Quoted from RogerKlotz27:
How can with the tech available today, These new music pins can't offer bands entire catalogs? Someone explain this please.
They could offer entire catalogs, but who would want that?
Most bands have plenty of sucky songs.
A pin is like a greatest hits package.
Quoted from RogerKlotz27:
10 grand for 11 songs. Ludicrous
Each song requires programming a mode around it.
Or are you looking for a jukebox mode that would just play the songs without a specific mode?
There are not 20 songs by Led Zepp fast enough to put in a pinball machine.
There are not 20 songs by Aerosmith fast enough to put in a pin.
