I hated having to sit when they called out couples skate...
But loved when I finally got out there
I’ll never forget my first : )

I was such a crappy roller skater that the only category I could skate under was ALL SKATE (barely). I would’ve done great if it said FALL ON ASS. Got dragged along to the rink with friends who loved skating. I spent most of my time there playing the pinball machine by the snack bar.
1E82D7BA-9D0B-4D72-BEC2-9480A3BC94CE (resized).jpegI too was a horrible roller skater. I remember being so nervous for my first couple skate because I couldn’t skate backwards. (Cause only real couples skated like they were on a hallmark card) anyway thinking the big couple announcement was minutes away i snuck away to the bathroom to practice my backward moves. Minutes later I hear Kool & the Gang’s Cherish and I knew my time has come. I roll out of the bathroom, grab my girl and it was everything I hoped it would be.
Until....
I started smelling urine. Your in trouble I thought to myself cause if I could smell the pee on my wheels I knew she could too. To her credit she never mentioned it but we also didn’t finish the song cause she had to call her mother??? To this day I can’t stand Kool or his Gang.
Side post - In 2012 I go to a Van Halen show in Atlantic City. Opening act on ticket just says Special Guest. And yup you guessed it....Kool & the Gang. Needless to say I was pissed,
Having grown up in northern climes I could ice skate like a bitch. But I never could figure out how to roller skate. I think I tried it literally one time. I could not figure out how to turn, and ended up going in a straight line while desperately trying to turn and body slamming a random girl into the wall. She was not happy.

Quoted from tcape61:This is me back in 1966. That gun you could pump up and it made a really big compressed air BANG when you pulled the trigger. Surprised it did not kill me!

How did you get that picture past the censors

Yeah, that's it. I just barely make out the red handle in your pic that you pump it with. Can't believe my mom got me that for Christmas when I was 5, lol....
I knew there had to be a Curt Russell commercial for this:
...and I believe the voice over is the late William Conrad.

Water Wiggles reminded me of "Water Wiennie".
I remember the 'cool' thing was to fill it up in your sleeve, hidden away from sight.
And I just cleaned my power hitter from the 80s, for the first time since then in storage!

Wow learned something new today. Thanks.

Shotgun: Way back in 1969-1970, when the U.S. was mired in Viet Nam, all of the military battles were shown on TV. Everybody would come home from work, set down to the dinner table and turn on the TV and watch live rounds whizzing all over the place.
Drugs were starting to be become a problem for the Army over in Viet Nam. There was news segment with the cameras trained on some of these dope smoking Army guys. One guy, a senior man in the platoon had a pipe like the pipe your grandpa use to smoke. He was loaded up with what was probably some real good Asian smoke. Thai Stick, maybe? The last thing he did for the camera was to grab a 12 gauge shotgun and jam grandpa's lit pipe into the chamber. Then he turned the shotgun towards the camera and blew a cloud of smoke. The end.
Not long after that, some one cooked up a way to hold a doobie in their mouth and blow a lung full of smoke your way. And that was called shotgunning. I don't know if whoever coined the phrase saw the same newscasts I saw on TV, but I never had a problem in making a connection.
And then a few years later, the Power Hitter hit the market. I saw my first Power Hitter in 1977. Those things were nice.

This thread should be named "Taking a walk down memory lane". I have stuff going thru my brain that I forgot about years ago.

Quoted from onemoresean:I enjoyed making a robot or alien voice from behind a fan.
I found this vintage blue blade today in a clean-up pile, and had to do a few voices.
Still fun.
Reading that brought a huge smile to my face.

Hmm... many mouse-related items.
I had been given one of theses witches in the 80s. I hung on to it for many years, but I gave it to a freind at his house where he had a shelf covered with such oddities. It fits there well.
An odd fact is that the guy who gave it to me died about a week ago.
Some day I might get another. I need to stumble into it.

I had a LEGO phone that I got as a gift in the 80s. I didn’t like it, but my Mom flipped over it and used it for over 20 years.

Ahh, one of my favorites! An excuse to post this pic again.
Sold most of it, but still have Maskatron.

Didn’t know that.
Is that a feature on all G.I.Joes or just the G.I.Joe LE?
Holy crap! I’ve just discovered that in 1964 there was a kids Halloween costume of RAT FINK. This thing is shockingly awesome. Beats the heck out of whatever I dressed up as that year. Probably Yogi Bear.
