Oh man, wow. That is just absolutely awesome. I took a quick look at ebay, I think just the cars alone in those pics are worth well over $1.000.
I have been collecting things on and off for my whole life.
I used Want to own the stuff And hoard it.

But I have changed over time. I like to sell too I have found.

Make sure it is not something you can’t part with.

I know what you mean. Funny thing is, that whole boomer gen is now looking back and a lot of them want to get their hands on all that stuff they have fond childhood memories of. I just finished reading that Aurora Modeling book and they discuss this in there, and the recent resurgence of a lot of that stuff with Polar Lights and others.

Not a "toy" really, but maybe electric guitars and amps and pedals count...especially pedals, we called them "toys" in the 70s!
These are the only known pictures of me (on the right) and my friend Clark jamming in his mom's basement around 1974. We were about 16-17 at the time. Clark is playing a 1959 Fender Precision bass that he got for $100, and I'm playing a '71 Gibson ES-330 that I bought after my Strat got ripped off at school in Hartford, CT.
His parents' house was like mine, full of books. I guess it was the first time we played in front of a wall of "Stacks"! Book stacks instead of Marshall stacks - those came much later.
The Strat that got stolen had a 1959 body with a '72 neck. Just a beater strat 
. Paid $250 for it, got $300 from State Farm for it and bought the ES-330.
You think pinball prices have gone up...

My mom was able to find me the stunt cycle one year for Christmas, but the van was nearly impossible to find that year (she told me later she was lucky to find the motorcycle). Man I loved that toy. I was making out of this world jumps with the stunt cycle that Christmas morning until my oldest brother tried it just (1) time and broke it because he couldn't stop turning the handle on the base, causing it to break. He kept turning the handle and I told him to stop as he was revving up the cycle's mechanism, but he didn't know how to stop. I mean, how in the f*** do you know how NOT to quit turning a manual handle?? I grabbed his hand and stopped it, but the cycle coasted down the small ramp and came to a thud, never to work again. I mean I was devastated and heart broken the rest of Christmas day, but I still played with the cycle even though it didn't work anymore.
My wife eventually got me the remake of the stunt cycle kit (that included the ramp and cardboard fire ring you could jump the motorcycle thru) made several years ago and I still have it NIB. But man that van would have been awesome. To this day I still hold a tiny grudge against my brother for breaking it and I still tease him about it every time we gather for Christmas.

Practically a tragedy when your that age, but being able to tell this story at your brother's expensive every year at Christmas - Priceless!

My older brother did not "break" my things... he would simply sell them off when I was not home.

It's not as bad as what happened to my cousins.
They got in really bad trouble. I do not know what it was, but their dad started a

They pop up for sale every few months around me. Usually for outrageous asking amounts but I have seen a couple for a hundred bucks or less.

I got a bunch of cassettes from Record Club Of America when I was in high school in the early 70s. I think it was a better deal than Columbia House. I remember having several Three Dog Night tapes from them. Joy to the world!

Man looking through this thread reminds me of how truly bad the toys of today are-really pathetic compared to some of the classics. Even the new Transformer re-issues are garbage. Where have all the good Toys gone? Makes me want to start a toy company.

I don't know why. That reminded me of post WW2 when all the great tin wind up toys started coming to the USA from Japan and Germany. Now long gone and forgotten. Except by collectors.

The toy market is actually huge and continues to grow, but I agree, a lot of the toys are cheap/won't last (even the digital ones). When a lot of us were young, we got less toys than kids today. Birthday/Christmas for me, and numbered on one hand. They were more expensive, and therefore, less of them, and we played with them longer. It was that way with the rest of the world, you bought less and expected it to last.
The steady march of commercialism has shorten this cycle considerable. Kids get toys all the time now, in their happy meals, at the check out line, etc. Also, the action figure is only as good as the next movie, which comes out a lot faster these days between films. Cheaper/faster and obsolete sooner. And when something costs more that is meant to last longer (pinball anyone?) we complain.

You used to be able to sign a chit at the pharmacy and get a bottle. Nowdays, no pharmacy will sell it unless you have a prescription. And then you just get a little bitty bottle for big bottle prices.
And the crap for over the counter or on the shelf is still crap after all these years. Same level of quality as 40 years ago: It doesn't work.

While we’re on the subject of abusing cough suppressants... Candy was not allowed in my grade school classrooms. But I could occasionally get around that rule with a box of tasty candy-like cough drops for my bogus sore throat. I loved those Vicks lemon ones.
