MEGO MEGO MEGO

Didn't anyone have Mego action figures? Planet of the Apes, Superheros, and more.

#2252 3 years ago

In process of rescraping a massive collection of roms. Have owned and kept pristine practically every video game console released dating back to the pre Atari 2600 days. Also I’m guilty of having maybe one too many CRTs in a spare bedroom. Lots of work and a few headaches involved trying to play retro games on OEM vintage hardware so finally embracing emulation.

Keys to the candy store.
Only problem now is...too much candy.
But damn it felt sweet treating myself to some big screen AND hassle free Tecmo Bowl last night.

Remember these little perpetual calendars? I really liked these and had a few of them. Bought them from museum gift shops on school field trips.

My sister had this...
pasted_image (resized).pngpasted_image (resized).png
One year for XMas my sister figured she was old enough, and along with my brother and I made are parents easy bake breakfast. My dad was mortified.

Quoted from vec-tor:

That brought back memories. My older cousin Melvin had one of those, and dolls, etc.

I was probably 2 or 3 years old and my Father's mother was baby sitting me. My mother came to pick me up. My grandmother told her it was pretty soon time to get me a doll.

My mother told her I'd never have a doll, I'd have trucks.

So on the way home we stopped and got me a truck.

So back then trucks were my favorite toys. Bless my mother's heart.

U-FLY-IT
well I did not have one nor did my buddy. so we made our own out of Lego
once we got good in his basement, we scaled up..
out my 2nd floor bedroom window across the yard and landed on a picknic table.
our planes got bigger until we made a 4 engine bomber
the wheels popped off due to weight, bomber crashed on the patio total loss bits everywhere

3 weeks, 5 minutes at a time, they all are getting cleaned, checked, and stored.
This is like 8 family members toys going back to the 50s.
There is around 10 bins more than showing.....I guess we truly were all spoiled.

Can't stop looking at your great collection of games! I see a Bolt n Stein game in there, on top of Crazy Clock. A game from the 90s. Never played that one. Looks like it would be great fun with kids.

Good Eye! Ill grab some other pics. I should have taken more.

Today we pulled out a bin with Etch a sketch, Hulk hands, a Lock Box, 2 Slinkys, some Transformers, Dragon Ball Z Pinball,
Ghettopoly, Bang Box, Hoberman Sphere, and Quick Silver.

But you are right, that is BoltenStein!

The game plays great, and a lot of fun!

This is also on the shelf on the right. Trik Trak! Check out this toy!

While still my childhood at 60, This Rheoscopic Spinning display came in from England after 4 months.
Pretty Cool, Lava Lamp like, not as cool as a sisyphus table though.

It’s reminding me of my Lava Wave machine I had back in the 70s.

How does this thing work?

Thanks

Sisyphus!

General speculation is that there's either a moving magnet or a light magnetic field being generated which moves the ball around the sand. Damn cool idea. Now if they could just figure out a way to do it without requiring a power cable...

#2274 3 years ago

I remember reading that but I completely missed the part where you can CREATE YOUR OWN DESIGNS. That is amazing. I’m frickin in.

I love it but I'd have speech anxiety asking for it in a store.

Hey guys. What would you bid/pay for this lot? I'm involved in a auction and these look pretty cool. Advertised as vintage hot wheels toys. Current bid is $7.50

Cheaper than the pinball after all.

Sold mine about 40 years ago had about 10,000 could have had a fortune if I would have waited. Did have some war ones but liked "Weird War Stories" DC the most.

I read a bunch of combat comics, too. I’m certain that I had that issue of Sgt. Rock, and probably some of the others. Do you remember DC’s GI Combat? It had the stories of the Haunted Tank. In those, the ghost of J.E.B. Stuart acted as a guardian over a WWll US tank crew. I remember one issue where the ghost got all pissed that the crew had switched to a Sherman after their Stuart tank got flamed. Fun stuff! I wish I still had those old books.

I remember a friends father shaming me because I "still" read comic books. I was thirteen.

Fuck him, I stole a bunch of his Playboys'.

Yes...good early pinball training. Santa was right on the money! Looks like there might be some good parts still there too!

Now that you mention it, I'm not sure how stolen Playboys haven't made this list yet. They were always a childhood favorite!

This is the December 1972 issue. It even has a pretty cool article on pinball (because we all know you only read Playboy for the articles ). Too bad the Fireball gets lost in the centerfold.

It didn't get lost in the shuffle though. That article probably helped sell 1000s of Fireballs, and may be responsible for starting the home pinball collector hobby.

In the early 60s, the dad of my friend from across the street had loads of Playboys someone gave him. After his workday ended, the dad would lie on the basement couch and read the articles. It was no big deal. He had them laying around in the the open. My friend and I would look at those mags after school and laugh our asses off from looking at the cartoons.

At the age of 10 we did not understand a lot of the info. but we had a good time.

I got the one from Lafayette Electronics. It started my electronics career!

There's like an 80% chance I still have it, somewhere...

Absolutely can't beat any variations of electronic lab as a cool ass present back in the day!

LOVE mine to this day.

I'm not so sure mom's vacuum appreciated all my bits of hook-up wires I'd always have dropped on the carpet, though

Nice little unit...looks like you got the deluxe kit! Better find it and relocate those batteries or get an NVRAM though!

Mine looks pretty worn out...with a blown out and leaking capacitor and probably needs a new transistor and transformer. Some things never change!

Yes...awesome fun with those units back in the day. I remember when Dad kyboshed my 'mod' of trying to hook up a wall plug through the thing to make some gizmo work! Guess that's why the next Christmas I got a Heathkit voltmeter that Dad and I put together!

Danm, o-din, that's quite a price. That kit has to be uber rare, I would think.

That's nothing compared to what I got for my 8th birthday that cost maybe $1 or $2 at the time if I remember correctly.

At least shipping is free.
