I grow Chestnuts and would rather eat them!

Quoted from VolunteerPin:

3. My first computer Sinclair ZX81. Came with one KB and my dad upgraded me to 16! Did have a flight simulator that took over 5 minutes to load off of a cassette deck (no floppy drive). Learned some basic programming. Kept that bad boy until the huge upgrade to a Commodore 64 computer. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZX81#/media/File%3ASinclair-ZX81.png
:
I had one of those.
Bought the kit over US mail to build it yourself for $99 at 16KB, probably around 1980.
Bought a TI-99/4A several months later.
Used the same cassette recorder with the both computers.
Didn't have 5-1/2 disc drives until later.

Do these mean anything to anyone?

I would have guessed it was a homemade "clacker". Turns out I was close, since it's was a "conker"

Click clacks were awesome. My fondest memory of them for years as a child was the pair that was suspended on the power line above the road as you exited my neighborhood.

I had a pair of click clacks, or clackers as we called them. All was well and good until someone had a pair blow up and shatter all over the placed. The school put on an instant ban and they disappeared. I bet the inventors/sellers thought they were going to cut a fat hog but the product had a very short life cycle.

Oh yeah, I played marbles for hours.

#1510 12 months ago

I had a Steelie

#1511 12 months ago

Marbles are getting crazy collectible these days. Guys are paying big bucks at auctions I attend for a small bag or pail of marbles. The new ones look like the old ones so not sure what makes them valuable?

Funny story. When I was 4 or 5 I stuck 2 steelies in my nose and couldn't get them out. My mom freaked and took me to emergency. They went thru my mouth with a little tool of some kind and pushed one out of my nose from behind. Once one was out i shot the other one out

#1512 12 months ago

Big marbles championship is still held in Wildwood NJ every year. They have these courts on the beach....

I remember playing marbles..if you had a more valuable marble/steelie, the opponent had to roll/hit it more times then you had to hit theirs to collect..and flinging hockey cards..furthest flung card wins..knockdowns..cards lying on top of others. Man, those were the simple good times..

It is not really a toy, but how many of you remember gambling with your lunch room money by figuring no one could toss a coin as close to the wall as you.

I just said “Oh my God! Stompers!!” out loud. I *totally* forgot about those, but loved them when I was a kid. Something I think my youngest might like... might just pick up one for me, too

#1522 11 months ago

Continuing on Darda, I had this one. Good times...

Also picked up a Fisher Price Chime Ball? It's very hypnotic. Sounds like a wind chime. Very relaxing as my dog noses it around.

Rec Games Pinball or more commonly known as, RGP.
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/rec.games.pinball

It's pretty much dead these days but once upon a time it was the Pinside of its day. It remains a great archive for searchable tech information especially for the older games of the 70's, 80's, 90's and early 2000's.

Ask Lloyd ltg as he was a King there along with a volunteer group of, "Cheap Ass Bastards" and many others. (Only a dwindling few on Pinside will understand that)

Kudos to Robin for building a better mousetrap.

I use to love this remote helicopter that went around in circles and was connected with a straight wire. It could land and take off and pick things up. It was pretty simple but loads of fun. Always wanted to get one for my kids but could never find it. If you know what I am talking about, love to know the name of it. Thanks.

I used to have that! We'd get it going full blast and smash it into the ground. Thing took a lickin' and kept on tickin'.

I used to smash the entire roll of caps with a hammer on the driveway. Used to make a big bang. One time I did this on a spot of oil on the driveway and it caught fire. I think this started my fascination with fire.
