Quoted from Nepi23:

I remember well playing this at one Christmas - it was very very cool!

That was my first pinball machine too.

#1102 2 years ago
Quoted from RCA1:

and lead paint, and leaded gas, and no seatbelts, no bike helmets, no cell phones, riding the open bed of a pickup truck............................
Ahh.............. to be a kid again..........................................

Yeah, what a soft society we live in these days.

#1103 2 years ago
Quoted from Manimal:

I don't even know if you can buy rolls of caps anymore, but we would literally buy boxes and boxes of those rolls and pretend-kill everything until we had blisters on our fingers. Then we would take a hammer and strike the caps to get a better bang. Loved that smell of powder burning!

Quoted from OLDPINGUY:

We dipped our rolls in gasoline, and then smacked with a hammer!
I cant believe I survived all the stuff we burned and blew up!

We used to scrape the caps with our thumbnails. They'd flame up and burn our thumbs.

ok, this is one for all us old folks in the midwest. does anyone remember "shagging"?

how we didn't die doing that remains a mystery

#1105 2 years ago
Quoted from OLDPINGUY:

I think a modern derivation, remade, of this would sell.
Theme it Star Wars....if needed, cut a strip of Newspaper, roll it up, and get 100 "shots" or "bangs"
out of it, like a cap gun, but regular newspaper!
My son enjoyed this as did the neighborhood kids....its got legs!
(Other than PC, that its a gun....so it need to be a "Space Blaster" to pass PC)

My well used Super Atomic version.
Impressed you could keep yours in such nice condition.

And before that I had my trusty homemade gun in wood and linoleum.
Made by my father and played with it for hours.
Cant imagine today's kids with a toy like this.
Most get tired of my pinball's within half an hour.

I used LEDs from a TI calculator, and Coleco games in Williams Jackpot Pinball in the 70's.....who would have known?

I used to utilize that as transportation to/from basketball practice everyday (well, everyday there was snow). I even had special shoes I would use. Of course, with today's "bumpers," it is pretty much obsolete.

It's a pic of his nanny.....lucky guy. And his folks could never figure out why he didn't want to play with the neighborhood kids.......

Mrs. Robinson?

Based on his name, I am hoping it wasn't Alice from the Brady Bunch....

But J-Brady-65-TV doesn't paint a pretty picture.....lol

Still have 2 sets of the original Jarts plus extra fins with the box! I understand they can fetch good money on eBay.

They are banned, and like with any banned item, one opens oneself to risking large penalties for selling or even giving away such items. eBay yanks any listings of the darts and threatens to review your account, they will only let you sell the empty boxes. I recall they used to allow the fins, but apparently they are a no-no nowadays as some smart alecks used to try to get around the ban by selling the parts separately.

When I was a little kid I once threw a brick in the air that unintentionally clobbered the neighbor girl. I still feel bad about it 50 years later but at least it didn't pierce her skull! So far the CPSC hasn't banned bricks!

Had that same wind up EK stuntcycle when I was around 6 and one hateful assed long haired Pekingese.
This proved to be a horrible combo for myself, the dog and ultimately my mother one day when I shot it full speed across the kitchen floor and the dog could not scramble out of the way fast enough.
The cycle got SO tangled up in that long fur instantly!!
This particular dog while small was almost evil I mean seriously it was one mean little shit.
Every time my mom would even get close to it to try and deal with the situation it would go ballistic .The dog knew it wasn't going to be pleasant and mom couldn't deal with it so it had to wait for dad.
This happened early in the morning so the rest of the day until my dad got home to handle it the dog drug EK around imbedded in his thigh with the meanest look on its face .
Once dad did get home I ended up with a slow rolling stunt cycle from the intertwined fur and a hateful dog with a huge bald spot.

#1128 2 years ago

Had one of these as a kid, took lots of batteries and ate them fast.

I had this golf game. The living room, which just happened to be green wall to wall carpet was a perfect spot to set up a course!

My first Transformer was like made of diecast metal and was a Lamborghini. It was amazing.

My other favorite toy was Condor from M.A.S.K. A motorcycle AND a helicopter!

#1131 2 years ago

Had one of these too, me and my brother beat the S@#T out of that thing. I think you could have just about hit this thing with a hammer and it would have taken it.

I have a Golf Game collection that includes those.

Gotta sell them coming soon, just in case someone collects golf......

Heres one that came out after me, but I bought a Ton for my son growing up.

Loved M.A.S.K.! Matt Tracker and his flying gull wing Camaro. I think I had the missles on the doors of that toy for all of 3 seconds before they vanished somewhere.

This was some cool stuff. Fun to use but sucked to clean up.

Some more toys I had as a kid. We used to be able to lift the front on the couch with that fork lift. They don't make toys like they used to. Christmas was awesome!! at our house. My parents were great to us.

Any one remember the Omnibot robot. Here is the link I found but it is the skinny version not the original. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omnibot

I am guessing there are far more kids killed on bicycles, skateboards, or any number of other devices than ever were killed or maimed by lawn darts......but just because Johnny happened to 'zig' when he should have 'zagged'...our kids will never know the thrill of throwing a weighted metal spike in the air and having it pin their foot to the yard..........lol

#1142 2 years ago

Oh man Robotix and Capsela, I remember those both fondly.

#1143 2 years ago

I don't remember seeing this yet. Always fun cause it invited the girls to come over to play.8a2c57a618653668f9bfed904f699a65 (resized).jpg

I still have my lawn darts in box. Bought them at a church sale for $2.00

Was really bummed that my parents did not hold onto Crossbows and Catapults. Neighbors had Stay Alive and I seem to remember liking that game for some reason.

#1146 2 years ago

I had Crossbows & Catapults - it was a big blue box, with Orcs and Barbarians. I bought it for my son last year, where it's called "Battlezone Crossbows & Catapults" or something like that. It comes with an army of knights and Trolls I think. The pieces are painted sort of like miniature D&D or Warhammer guys (but crappily). Doesn't seem quite as fun, even though it's really all the same pieces. Oh wait, maybe it's because I'm not 7 any more...

#1147 2 years ago

I never had an omni bot. That was out of my price range back then. I was a poor ass kid.

I got some great games and stuff, in my youth, but the omni bot I think that was over a hundred. Very tough to get grandma to crack on that shit back in the day. Craftier kids had that. And luckier kids. I was happy though.

Even though I was poor, growing up in the 70-80s in America was a gift for a kid like me. I didn't get the omni bot but I got a lot of other things. I got the Death Star. I had a mazinger. Only ever saw one in the store. I took it. Grandma again. God rest her soul.

Peace brothers.

#1148 2 years ago

I don't know if anyone had these.

When I was a kid in the 70s an older kid gave me a brown paper bag filled with the entire set of these models, assembled and painted. Vampirella, and all of them. He was about 14 and I was in 2nd grade or so.
The whole bag. It was like Christmas. I love giving good stuff to kids now. I was given so much, I have to share.
