Have any of you gone back to your childhood home and neighborhood? I did about 45 - 48? years after moving far away and it was a trip. I knocked on the door and respected their decision to not allow me in. Childhood home or not, we live in scary times and I might have done the same with a stranger.
But the home owner did allow me to walk around into the back yard and from there I explored some of my old neighborhood pathways and locations.
I wandered over to my old elementary school just like I had everyday as a small boy. It was summer time so the school was closed but I found an unlocked door and let myself in. *No lectures please. Being old hasn't stopped me from being curious and getting into trouble*.
I had the whole building to myself and it was fun walking the familiar hallways and finding my old "Home" room. And just around the corner from there was the boys bathroom and I just had to look in. I marveled and laughed when I saw a row of tiny urinals' about 4 inches off the floor. It was hysterical to see. The pictures I'm posting don't do it justice of what I actually saw. And in case you're wondering, yes I took a pee for old times sake.
I highly recommend all of you do this but I will share one little tidbit without giving any details. At one point during all of this nostalgia, I got very emotional and I was caught completely off guard by it.
Great trip though.
