Article in the WSJ today on this exact topic if you can access it.
"In Las Vegas, Drinks Flow A Little Less Freely"

That is f**cking unbelievable.A computer that tells the bartender when you can get a free drink. That's it for me.I'm never going back.I'll spend my money in Reno.

What I couldn't believe is how nasty they all were. Old washed up fake breasted skanks.

Hog, dog, or frog, they are all pink on the inside.

Horrible grammar from me sorry. I wanted to bring up prostitution more, I guess it's coming...

I've watched documentaries about the hookers in the cat houses around Vegas. Louie Theroux from the BBC did a very good one.
What I couldn't believe was how much they were charging for the "services" ...
The going rate (so I am told ..) around Auckland is $100-200 NZ bucks ... but the ones on the TV were like 500-900 US bucks. I know a guy who had a lady come to his room in Vegas and she wanted like $500 bucks or something like that.
Is it really that much? Always wondered. Seems a shit load of money.

If it flies, floats or F#cks it's cheaper to rent than to buy.

Also, if it has wheels.....

You can thank that piece of shit "professor" Gary Loveman of Harrah's Entertainment (now known as Caesars Entertainment) for his "quantitative methods" like this that bankrupted his COmpaNy. All of the other public gaming COmpaNies followed.

Not these days. I have 4 reliable vehicles. Probably worth $14,000 total. I turn my own wrenches, but damn used cars are cheap these days.

Also a bunch of people have mentioned Reno as a viable cheap alternative to Vegas. We are missing the glitz here, but damn I love this city.

Played at the Fremont street arcade - six very nice LE machines, all in good shape, all played well. $1 per game, very friendly staff. Clean, no loud music, not crowded around the pinball machines.

I think it's a great place to go after people watching along Fremont street. Some images just can't be removed from memory.

Heading to PHOF this afternoon, and a AAA ballgame tonight. Watched my kids (26 & 28) lose a quick $60 in slots, they agree that gambling is a losing proposition, so let's go play pinball.

Get a sandwich at greenbergs in NYNY and go upstairs to play pinball!
I love doing that.

Just back from Vegas:
No pinball playing
Sank a ton of money in the slots ( my misses at least)
No cocktail waitresses on the floor
Food gave me the shits at Benihana
Parking was $40 a day
Crowded as f..k

Will I be back .....
Probably will since I am a moron

#264 6 years ago

Too bad the Fremont is down to 6 pinballs now from 10 a short while ago. But I've heard the pins aren't bringing in as much revenue as other arcades and floor space is at a premium, so something had to give.

LV is a shitbox. Nothing authentic or really interesting about it. It is a place people go to have an excuse for whatever. You don't need permission to do whatever at home.

When Danni finishes school next year, we will probably relocate there for 6 months.

But I've already started buying nz beer to prep myself?
Not bad tasting, just not strong enough.

That is pretty plain NZ beer mostly (solely?) for export. We have much much much better!

They pulled all the single cold local beers in the coolers at our liquor store and replaced them with cases so it was either nz pure or some german grapefruit beer which sounded horrible.

As for Vegas, we would go Thursday and Friday of the opening rounds of march madness. Our last trip down (last March) was my first time hearing " that will be $9.50" for a single 12oz bottle. We also would sidetrack to Vegas on our way to Arizona but unless it's a special occasion I don't see Vegas in the books anytime soon.

Yup, that's the stuff. Would probably help if I liked grapefruit

We finished Las Vegas with a trip to NY, NY arcade. 10 new machines, $1.50 per game. Metallica was asking for a little bit of love, but still worked fine.

The Pinball HOF was great - a few more videos than I remember in the past, but still an excellent place to play. In the building next door was a place selling video games, a few pinball machines, and other memorabilia.

All in all, seeing and playing all the pinball machines made being in Las Vegas much more tolerable. BTW - I managed to spend four days there and not gamble - all my money went for beer and pinball.

#276 6 years ago

You telling me you didn't try your luck on any slots?!?

#277 6 years ago

Beer and pinball, a winning combination.

#278 6 years ago

BTW everybody NYNY now has an Aerosmith PRO!! Looks awesome! I didn't get a chance to play it (I was there with my mom she wanted to ride the rollercoaster before she got on the plane to go home lol).

$1.50/game? I've never heard of more then $1/game. Is it because of where it is or is there other locations where games are more then $1.00/game?

It's actually only $1.00 per game, I assure you.

Too bad your not routing the WOZ any more at NYNY, my wife plays the hell out of it.

#282 6 years ago

Yes - no slots - just beer, pinball, and the freak show on Fremont st. At NY, NY it was 15 credits per game - you swiped a card. I guess if I spent over $100, I could have gotten more credits that may have brought down the price per credit, but I didn't go that route.

Aerosmith PRO was fun!

Beer is free with the slots and you can slow play sigma derby at $0.25 a bet and get free drinks.

Heres a new one. My wifes secretary and her husband were at a hotel in Vegas and grabbed a cart to take their luggage to their room. One of the employees said they would have to rent it for $5 dollars.

Reno has been getting a few more sweet locations to play pinball. Jub Jubs Thirst Parlor and The Hideout Lounge have 4-7 pins each now. Walking distance to each other off of Wells Ave.

I'd get my five bucks worth. I carry a pipe cutter in my trunk.

But actually, at a full service casino-hotel, I tip the bellhop to bring my bags to the room when I'm with someone. $5 to $10 so $5 to borrow the cart means pay the bellhop five buck and you get delivery at no extra charge.

So wife and I just did Vegas again. I was thinking we'd try Reno, but we just wanted easy and familiar, so Vegas it was. We flew Orlando To Vegas round trip with one checked bag for ~$238 total. That's the best I've ever done booking a flight there. We stayed at the Renaissance Marriott which is next to the convention center. It isn't terribly fancy by Vegas standards, but it is a Marriott so nice and clean with great service. They waived our resort fee (~$22/day). I wouldn't feel too bad paying for it here as they actually give you good stuff such as parking, premium internet, 2 drinks at the bar per day, 2 Starbucks drinks per day etc. They also gave us access to the club room, so free breakfast, hor's d'oeuvres, and desert every day. If you stay there, you will want to get a monorail pass, but it isn't expensive and worked out very well for us. I used Budget for my rental this time and I would not recommend them. I'll try to stick with Alamo from here on out when in Vegas. We saw Penn and Teller at The Rio. It was an ok show, not awful, but not great. I'll probably just go see Mystere or Ka if I feel the need to see a show again. If you go to PHOF, play the Funhouse. They have done some work on it and it plays very well. I can't say the same for their AFM.

Oh yeah, did you know cats are allowed in carry on baggage? 4 f'n hours of constant, stressed cat meowing 2 rows up. But it gets better. A couple hours into the flight our seatmate pulls out her doggy bag of kimchi or whatever the hell it was. Soon after the guy in front of me is heaving and then puking. He did not make it into the bag. Worst flight I've ever experienced, but I can at least laugh about it now. My next vacation is going to be an f'n deck.

I saw Don Rickles interview a few years back...he said when the mafia ran Vegas, that was its prime. Cheap hotels, cheap food, and free booze. They made their rake on gambling. Then he said the Jews took over and everything was seen as a money maker. Food went up. Rooms went up. Free drinks disappeared. Shows got expensive. Rickles said he missed th old days when people had more fun. Rickles never pulled punches with stuff he said so I tend to believe what he says to be true.

New York, New York has the best Stern lineup for sure if that interests you!! The machines are well maintained!

Rickles was self deprecating towards Jews (himself being one.) I think it was the corporations, who are held accountable to the shareholders, to squeeze every bit of profit out of the company that has caused the downfall of Vegas. Corporate Vegas sucks.
