Because it is what you do when you don't know what you're doing.

But it seems like if you had the knowledge to do this, you could just fix it.

I still haven't been back to this game but I'm curious to try and figure our why they did it. The power to the relay switch goes directly to the transformer, all the other wires on that relay are cut off. I haven't traced out the wires to the relay solenoid yet.

Because chickens have got beaks.

Wow. Is there a fuse in that anywhere?

I suggest remove it & all traces of it-direct wiring to tsf ouch! It is at times impossible to detect why someone at some point did something!!

I think I know why it was done.

From what I can tell the original wire for the launcher coil energizes the relay. The relay switch is ran to high tap on the transformer and to the launcher coil.

I'm guessing the coil was weak and the ball was not making it into the shooter lane so they ran hi tap to the coil to get it to hit harder and get the ball into the shooter lane. Plausible?

I'm going to guess that it is a good thing there was already a hole in the playfield there...

It's still a dumb way to solve the problem. Seems like more work than actually fixing it right. It was likely a cold joint or dirty switch on the correct relay. Whatever it was, it's scrap now.

Thesaurus.com suggested "cock monster" as an alternative. I'm sure if you Google that there's a chicken beast in there somewhere.
