Hey everyone, Last Tuesday i got a 1986 Williams High Speed for $200 non-working. I still need to find an early system 11 board since the system 11A,11B wont work to my knowledge and the original has acid damage and dont know if i have the patience to repair it right now due to lack of time. Just finished stripping the parts off the topside of the playfield last night due to it being VERY nasty. But to what im trying to get at here is i have a few questions about restoring the playfield. The original art is in pretty awesome shape minus a couple of inserts graphics needing to be replaced.

#1 What is the best/easiest way to remove the mylar glue without harming the artwork???

I decided to pull the mylar off due to a couple of the inserts raising up on the playfield (see pictures). Thankfully from the horror stories ive heard about system 11 mylars it didnt really pull any art up other than a small amount of black around a couple of inserts and a couple of the insert decals. I saw something about dusting the adhesive with flour then spray alcohol on it and then dust it again with flour and then the adhesive will literally just rub off.

#2 Clearcoat, Re-mylar, or just Clean & Wax heavily like my EM's?

Once i remove all of the mylar glue, replace some of the insert decals, and touch the playfield up, what route would be the best result for longevity of the playfield? I dont exactly have access to spraying clearcoat and my OCD would go nuts if it didnt turn out PERFECT but i may be able to find someone that could for me.

#3 How do you go upon leveling/re-inserting the risen inserts into the playfield and how do you prevent it from happening again?

I've seen only how people put them back into the playfield with taking a dowel rod and put a thick rag between the insert and rod and lightly tap them back in, but i dont want this to re-occur a couple of years down the road.

#4 What is the best type of paint to do playfield touch-ups with?

Im sure there are more questions, but this is all i can think of right this minute.

I currently have one in the same, but worse, shape as you. I plan on waxing and playing it. Finding a HS PF is almost impossible sadly, and things like Overlays just seem above me.

The flour and alcohol method works great while also being delicate on the PF. You can also try Naphta but I would go flour and alcohol.
