Quoted from bobmathuse:Hackers. No gas, now no meat. Nobody doing squat to stop them, nobody taking Russia (or China in other recent cases, or North Korea in the past) to task about it. "Oh but it's rouges, it's not not state-sponsored." Why bother to sponsor it, just silently encourage it - - "Mess with countries we don't like and we'll let you keep your ransom money or hacked funds and look the other way. We'll even help keep your victims' governments off your tail if we can." Wait 'til Musk or whomever gets their "self-driving cars" and the hackers decide to have everyone accelerate and turn left at 11:15 wherever they are. Or they shut the power down some day in July when 90% of the country is over 90 degrees that afternoon. The "internet of things" sounds great to some, until you realize that it makes it that much easier for all of them to malfunction or be shut off at once. "Hey, let's turn the fridge and freezer temperature at Johnny's house up to 70 degrees. Oops, my mistake, it's doing it to everybody's fridge."
I'm not sure if this would ease your concerns but I've watched two very good documentaries on the topic of cyber attacks on industrial control systems that you may be interested in....
Zero Days (2016) directed by Alex Gibney
The Perfect Weapon (2020) directed by John Maggio
Zero Days is the one that started it all. And the better documentary.
Overall....scary shit!!
