Nooo, please no. 51 and had one, no big deal. My buddy same age felt fine, went for his and ended up catching colon cancer early enough to save his life. Please go get one.

Not a big deal at all. The worst part is the prep, and it's only because you have to drink some awful salty shit (mix it with Gatorade and it isn't so bad), and then you shit your brains out. Once you're in the hospital the next day, it's nothing at all. Do it.

I had the lemon lime flavor. Instructions are basically to drink it all, one glass at a time. When I came in for the procedure, the doctor asked me if I had drank all of the solution. I told him that I had and that I had learned that it is possible for me to pee out of my ass with that stuff. He just laughed and told me to count backwards from 100. Next thing I recall is waking up in the recovery room and I was really hungry after fasting for 24 hours. Then, I got to see color photographs of my gastrointestinal tract and colon. I had no issues. I am not sure that I want to repeat that procedure.

It’s Midazolam and Fentanyl for the win, you’ll never feel a thing except relaxation. Don’t drive home afterwards, and try not to let anyone quiz you about things you might not want to talk about until the next day.

My younger brother’s colonoscopy saved his life. He was only 50 when they caught the cancer. I’m due for another one soon.

The benefits way outweigh the inconvenience. It's not exactly what I'd call pleasant, but it's far from anything terribly unpleasant, and you'll enjoy peace of mind afterwards.

I always had a fear of snakes for some reason. Growing up on the outskirts of Vegas there were sidewinders everywhere. When I was little I was golfing with my dad on the Oregon coast. He putted his ball in the hole and asked me to get it for him. I reached in the hole and there was a snake coiled up in it. I stood back and nearly shit my pants. My smartass dad reached in the hole with his putter, picked up the snake and flung it at me hitting me in the chest. Definitely didn't cure my fear of snakes.

A very stupid mistake on my part. Didn't check the temperature of the water before I decided to swim for my wife's hat that flew off her head. boat keeps going a foot a second without brakes...hypothermia is fast.

I know that feeling. Many years ago, I accidentally fell off the edge here while horsing around. The cold lake water instantly took my breath away even though it was hot outside. I’m a strong swimmer but was gasping because of the initial shock. Someone thought I was struggling and decided to jump in to save me. Next thing I know, that guy is gasping because of the shock too. I actually had to swim over to pull him in. Definitely a scary moment.

It was in Austria. Had four passengers and luggage. The brakes faded on me. Talk about terror! Good thing the car (a VW Passat) had a standard transmission. I was able to eventually slow down enough using the transmission, and the brakes eventually cooled to where they regained some effectiveness.
If you're not accustomed to driving on mountain roads, you definitely have to keep brake fade in mind.

I'm not a really good swimmer, and I got pulled out by a rip current once.
Really scary when you put your feet down, and don't hit bottom when you expect to. Initially, the first reaction is panic, but I felt a very strong urge to override that, because I realized that panic will kill you. So I just relaxed, tried to float on my back, then flipped over and began to swim best I could parallel to the shore, until I could eventually get to shallow water. This is what I've always heard you should do, and it worked. I was never so happy to have my feet hit solid ground, and waded back to shore, a lucky survivor.

    #126 2 years ago

Same here..all My limbs when numb and I went down gulping lake water. I sprung back up and my voice slurred , I said turn the boat around ..my wife was panicking, I was able to flip for 30:seconds or so and float on my back, panic would have killed me. My wife did turn around and saved my life. Thank god she has her boating license. If not, I would have drowned.

    Flowers.

Small fruiting flowers or small flowers normally dont bug me.

Big ones like sunflowers (though I grow them sometimes, not this year) ones that move (carnivorous) or vegetable types that hidden in bush foliage or general house plants, freak me out.

One surgery I had when I was around 12 years old I actually did not go to sleep fast enough, and I seen the scalpel cut into me and I seen blood.

I passed out. And I still cringe a little when I see someone holding a knife. (even at the dinner table).

A whole lot of things scares me, but the flesh eating bacteria stuff is the only one that caused me to change my lifestyle and pretty much avoid water.

I know that stuff is rare, but I am accident prone and always have a cut or scrape somewhere(and not from beer).

I have cat scratch disease, not sure how rare that is, and does not mess up my world, but still messes up my eyesight.

And the 12 year old surgery they said was very rare for my age, for something normally men in their 80's may have.

My whole life the weird and rare crap seems to happen to me.

And I almost forgot, back in late 2019 I was in so much pain with my ears, I was about ready to kill myself, I could not take the pain any longer.

It took a while, but a ear specialist fixed me up.

All that ear pain was from something growing in my ears that they have no clue and I have no clue, but they did the suction stuff, and it sounded like rocks going through the tube.

No ear pain now, just itching, and my ears just always has tons of dead skin in them. They gave me a cream for that, it helps with the itching, but has never solved the problem. Every time I scratch my ears it looks like it is snowing out of them.

All this weird stuff my whole life is what continues to scare me, and the flesh eating (and shark attacks) seem like the most preventable.

I would love to get back in the water.

(In the meantime, I have a 3 person banana boat, if you live in the area or are passing through I will be happy to pull you and your friends out on the lake. I will just stay on the main boat though, I am afraid of getting in the water).

Oh, and the first thing the ear specialist asked, was had I been swimming in a lake or ocean, and I said hell no, not in years.

And sorry for a long post, I am bad about that.

I wish all of you the best!

    Kidney stones bigger than 5mm.

I have a friend that has regular problems of this type, like maybe 3-4 times over the last 20 years or so. He actually has a few stones saved in a pill bottle that he passed and collected in a strainer. His were kind of light brown in color. He compared the pain to a woman giving birth. The shape was not round, but rather flat and jagged. He described the original shape more like a small round object with spines in several directions and that was after having the sonic procedure to break it up. He has also had to have the surgery. I cannot imagine trying to pass that.

Not even 5. I've only had one that caused me issues and it was 2-3mm. It was jagged and the spikes caused it to keep getting stuck. Lithotripsy broke it up, but then the pieces got stuck an inch or so lower. All in all it caused 5 trips to the ER over 3 months before I finally told them to admit me and go in and get it.

Changed my diet a bit after that. Mine was caused by drinking a ton of tea. Now I only have maybe one glass a month. That was 15 years ago and I haven't had a kidney stone since.

I hate the knocker too. We have a Comet at home and when I hit the 2 mil shot or get to around 1.5 million I plug my ears because it’s so fucking loud. My girlfriend and I put some cloth in it to dampen the sound some but I still get terrible anxiety when i think it’s coming.

My friend with this ongoing issue told me that the doctor prescribed some medicine for him to decrease his uric acid level. He also changed his diet, but I don't know the details. I think it involves less fatty meat and more lemon juice. Not sure about those details though. I hadn't heard that about that tea.

That's a gameplay feature, to add excitement and challenge. Kind of like the lockdown bar buttons found on a lot of the new games. As soon as you get to 1.5 million, you're forced to play no-handed so that you can plug your ears.

I guess it's even more challenging than a lockdown bar button because you need to remove both hands from the game.

By the way, I haven't posted my most feared thing to this thread, but I'm enjoying reading the thread and getting a whole bunch of new ones.

There's different kinds of stones, but mine were calcium oxalate. Tea is high in oxalates, which bind to the calcium you consume to make stones. Lots of foods like chocolate, berries, and nuts are high in oxalates. I read a whole book on the subject after my kidney stone nightmare.

I got mine in July. I was working outside on my yard for several days, sweating, getting dehydrated, and drinking massive amounts of tea. Bad combination.
