The balls on my LOTR keep getting all cruddy. It can be scraped off with your fingernail. I'm the original owner and it has always been doing this. I've shopped the game out over the years and changed to white rubber. Used all kinds of balls and keeps happening. Does not happen to any other of my games.

These balls were put in few months ago and maybe 50 plays. After cleaning and playing a couple of games you can see some spots of the crud coming back!

Second picture are the same balls cleaned with novus 1.

Good answer! I'm going to scrub that bugger and see if it helps!

    The havoc they wreak.

Looks like tarnish. There's another metal, residue from a cleaner, or something in there turning them.

Clean / Polish and then wax them well. If it is tarnish, a film of wax should slow things down a bunch.

I've had this happen from black post rubber.
It's happened on just one of my machines.
I put in new post rubber and the problem went away.
Not sure if this is the same issue.

    Yep, black rubber.

It lasts about 2 months these days!

Game has white rubber now and still happens.

I wiped the bottom of the balrog. It was actually pretty clean. It's a flat metal material and I don't think it's coming from there.

Like I said after playing a couple of games you can actually see some of this crud on the balls again.

For the most part the game looks pretty clean. I have wiped the trough down but don't think it's that either.

It's not tarnish. Wipes off pretty fast with novus 1.

    Trough is pretty clean.

Have you done a thorough cleaning of the playfield with Naptha recently? If not, it will remove old oils and waxes. Perhaps try it followed by a fresh waxing.

I get a bit of that on my LotR also. Some stuck to the balls and playfield. It cleans off, and I assume it is just rubber.
