This is where you need to know your players/customers/locations.

What is doing great at my place might not do good at your location.

Quoted from Lamprey:

but curious if what I've been told is true or not.

You won't know until you try.

Might do great. Might do good. Might not.

What works for one location may or may not work for you.

(except once in a while a 40-50 year old piece of metal will break).

Spot welder comes in handy for EM's.

How does this compare to soldering?

Spot welding is welding. Way stronger than soldering. You have two big copper tips on the bars reaching out of the box with the electronics. Great for EM's. Bracket brakes. Lay a piece of metal across the break, put a spot weld on each side of crack. Fixed. Last another 50 years.

Best tool my father ever bought.

I would have thought AC/DC would do very well

It has for me. A Luci Vault.

I had a premium in here 4 years ago for a month and a half and it did very well. So much so that it was #1 on my get list. And a couple months ago finally got it.

And very happy it's here.

Disclaimer : All part of being an operator. Knowing what works for you and what doesn't.

Wondering if more details can be provided on the location type

I'm an arcade. No alcohol.

Also another good question for people. At what point do multiple pinball machines start having diminished returns.

Stuff in games until your gross doesn't change. That is the number the location will support.

Quoted from V8haha:

We all know they compliment each other and having 5 will earn better per machine then having 2.

HaHa. Good one. If the location will only support 2 games. 3 more will just spread the same amount of money farther.

The internet can't tell you what a location will or won't do. The cash boxes in the machines there will. Cash boxes don't lie.

Anyone here know where to get 12v from older Bally Williams DMD games?

Switching power supply plugged into the service outlet.

Anyone know how to set a stern SAM game

First problem is it's before SAM. It's Whitestar.

No idea on $1 play.

Quoted from cait001:

Looking forward to hearing how this deluge of new titles does in a commercial setting.

Operators who buy NIB: what is your risk tolerance for younger companies?
Are there companies you won't purchase for routes?
Are any operators NOT buying current Stern games and focusing on other companies?

Interesting post.

First the title of this thread what pins are earning well right now. What earns in one location might not in another. Even in the same town or even right across the street.

Back to me. In the video game fad days, I stayed away from new companies. You didn't know if they'd be around later for help or parts.

I'm not buying NIB right now. I did in the past. And may again in the future. Just don't have that income level going on. Not doing tech support for jjp anymore, those jjp games at some point might be traded or sold. Fact in point I traded my jjp POTC for a GF CE, and Hobbit isn't going anywhere.

I don't have any current Stern Spike 1 or Spike 2 games. I'm a little concerned with the reported node board issues here, not covered under warranty, and not always available. Though I'd probably risk it if a Godzilla premium deal came along.

And I am glad I am still with CGC. For my arcade, I know they are the wave of the future. Tech support is light and they make a quality product.

Quoted from PinMonk:

But not being able to get pins out the door is really hampering their penetration.

And I believe they are working hard on that issue.

Quoted from PinMonk:

Cactus Canyon LE delays are ridiculous.

That is why.

They want better too. Won't happen over night. I believe it will.

Do you have the same reservations about the SAM titles?

No. TWD pro here and AC/DC Luci vault here.

Quoted from Chalkey:

Do any of yall do anything special to give games more "curb appeal" to passers by?

The jjp pins with cameras cause call outs to passers by if they haven't been played in awhile.

Quoted from oldbaby:

Do operators care about ball times being too long? It seems like any connection between ball times and revenue would be extremely difficult to measure or detect, because of all the confounding factors.

Welcome to being an operator.

A lot depends on the location. Always busy, shorter ball times. Not always busy, longer ball times. You want bodies in there so the location doesn't appear dead and no one in there. That really hurts incentive to go back.

Quoted from Isochronic_Frost:

Business begets business!
I find the best way to get the place going is to start something that you can’t be interrupted for! Start soldering things and without fail, a lovely member of the public will come up and bother the hell out of you or play the game RIGHT next to you.

Never fails. Quiet. Nobody around. Bored. I'll do something. Shortly into something I can't leave unfinished. Customers roll in.

players exclaim “it won’t end!” in frustration.

Who Dunnit - select guaranteed time play. Then they cry they only got one ball.

Sorry just starting out.

The cashbox never lies. No way of anyone guessing what would earn better. You need to know your location and players to have the best chance at making a good decision on what game(s) to get.

Also an option for a MB. I can put my SM on location too. Just need to work out whether to stick with everything IC or not. Maybe that’s not as important unless it’s a barcode.

Best wishes on your decisions going forward !

Does anyone have a Stern pirates on location? How does it do compared to more modern games?

Mine does better than the jjp one.
