I made a poll with over thirty of the themes that have been debated here (and some that haven't) to see which ones rise to the top when pinside weighs in. The poll is independent from manufacturer, so just vote for themes you want, not thinking about who will make it.

This is a MULTI CHOICE POLL. Pick all the themes you want to see and we can get a picture of which ones have the most support. There is no JAWS on this list since that's imminent. Other ones on this list are rumored in the works, but I've included them also to see the relative popularity of each compared to unproduced themes.

    Top 10:
    SEE FOR YOURSELF NOW!

Note that Robin has added the ability to SORT the results of the poll in real time. You can sort by Original, A-Z, or Score (votes) largest to smallest. Just click on one of those on the top right of the poll to sort.

Was hoping to see Pink Floyd on this list…

    Hendrix too

I'm going to just let "treehouse of terror" and "Futurerama" slide.

    ...

And props/major love for your cooling fan kits.

    #5 6 months ago

Would've been better to see this vs elton John.

    Quoted from SantaEatsCheese:

It was the thought that counted!

    #6 6 months ago

Treehouse of Terror actually sounds better than Treehouse of Horror. I like the alliteration.

    #7 6 months ago

My avatar photo has never been more relevant.

    #8 6 months ago

Muppets easy so many ways to go with that.

    #9 6 months ago

    Slayer!

    #14 6 months ago

Sailor Moon, some kind of metal theme (Slayer and Death come to mind), some kind of rap theme (many to pick from but might be hamstrung by having to be family friendly)

    #15 6 months ago

    Evil Dead/ Army of Darkness
    He-Man or Thundercats
    BTTF
    Nine Inch Nails
    Goonies
    Eight Ball Beyond

    Least confidence in actually happening:
    Bill & Ted
    Beavis & Butt-Head
    Die Hard

    #16 6 months ago

The Goonies and Van Halen would be instant deposits for me. Harry Potter would make a great pin. Everything else is just wait and see I suppose. Whoever gets the license to the Goonies is going to murder sales.

The Goonies 2 (film) begins production in Q1 2024. Most of the original case is coming back and its a sequel.

    #17 6 months ago

    Equilibrium
    The Event Horizon
    Donnie Darko
    Resident Evil

    #18 6 months ago

Of the themes in your poll, The Matrix would get my blood pumping the most.

    #19 6 months ago

A Die Hard trilogy pin would be amazing.

    #20 6 months ago

Super Troopers would top my list. Call outs would be epic.

    #21 6 months ago

    Dune

Yeah, I was sure to forget a few. I know there's no way Stern will do a Pink Floyd, but it could happen with JJP or another manufacturer. I should have put an "other" choice as a catch-all, but I guess that's what the comments are for.

Haha. I think it was almost 4am. Brainpower starts to slide.

If I was going for a "soft" anime theme, I'd much rather have Ranma 1/2 or Urusei Yatsura, but it seems like pinball is overdue for its anime release.

Another couple that have been talked about a LOT that I forgot to include.

    Labyrinth!!! Oh wait . . . uh . . .

    Hee Haw
    Saving Private Ryan
    Old Yeller
    Murder she Wrote
    Platoon
    Strawberry Shortcake
    OldBoy
    Yor Hunter from the Future
    Tonight show with Johnny Carson

You ought to have included Eight Ball Beyond from the recent Chicago Expo as well. I know a limited number of people played it or even knows it exists, but fat fingers crossed that homebrew gets picked up.

    #28 6 months ago

Sons of Anarchy = time for a new souped up motorcycle game.

Punchy The Clown remake with huge interactive clown head topper.

jjp doing Barbie with Steve Ritchie designing it, that should really piss Steve off. If he lives through it Top Gun next.

    LTG : )

What about Pulp Fiction? Oh, that might be coming out already...... maybe!

If I was doing homebrews, I would definitely have included that, Nightmare Before Christmas and Elf.

Can I make a motion to add a couple to this list…
    Who Framed Roger Rabbit
    Little Shop of Horrors
    The Blues Brothers
    Kill Bill
    Bladerunner
    The Lost Boys
    Evil Dead/AOD/Ash vs Evil Dead
    Batman TAS

    #33 6 months ago

Some of my list has been done before:
Star Wars (Don't care how many have been done, give me one by Keith Elwin)
    Transformers
    X-Men: Animated Series
    Super Man
Super Mario Bro/Mario Cart (Same playfield 2 different codes/rulesets)
    The Witcher (Series)
    John Wick
    Rush Hour

    The 3 Stooges

I would like Who Framed Roger Rabbit but doubt that ip would sell many cabinets.

    In for Blade Runner, though!

    The Witcher (Series)
    John Wick
    Rush Hour

John Wick is rumored to be on the way, so that definitely should have been on the list. I think a Super Mario would do great, but if we can only have one Nintendo pin, Pokemon would do even better. The Witcher was a slam dunk until they utterly destroyed the series with the terrible season 2 and Henry Cavill left in disgust. I actually came close to putting Rush Hour on the list, but I just don't see how it works as a pin.

    #37 6 months ago

    More star wars games
    Forgotten realms
    Metroid
    Dateline nbc

I think if they can make a Godfather Pin, they can work with just about anything.

Never going to happen. I hear QT hates pinball with a passion!

Yes, I believe in their ability, but the goal is for the games to SELL so they can make more.

Is this a hint on your next game?

    MEEECHHHANIIIZZZEEE MULLLTIBALLL!!!

    JJP know that?

    #45 6 months ago

Hmm... there a difference between which I would love to see/play and which I would actually buy for my home.

Love to play at arcade/someone else's house:
    Big trouble in Little China
    Back To The Future,
    Matrix
    Diehard

    Would buy for my home:
    Harry Potter
    Princess Bride (wife's favorite movie)
    Simpson's Treehouse of Terror
Gravity Falls (cartoon, I may need to make this one myself)

    #46 6 months ago

Their last three releases bring that into question.

    #47 6 months ago

These theme poll threads seem to come up pretty regularly, sometimes with around 50 or so themes listed and/or discussed. Available themes isn't a problem, knocking them off the list by getting those games made is. On top of that, some of the themes being made today nobody really asked for: Venom, TS4, GF, Elton John, GTF. And webstore sales of Spookys newest double feature TCM and LT do not indicate these are must-haves either.

Until recently, the 10 year release history for Spooky and JJP had a game/layout coming out every ~1.5 years. If they maintained that pace for another 10 years, they would have produced a scant 15 titles each in 20 years. Alien was essentially complete after years of development at Heighway, and PB still took several more years to make/fix that one. Dutch has taken years working over TBL. After years in development and a further wait since being announced, PF still not in production. CGC and Haggis can't even get remakes out, which aren't even fresh titles.

The next pinball manufacturer who can consistently produce two titles a year will be so much more relevant in so many ways.

    Quoted from greenhornet:

All the more reason theme choice is so crucial.

I think Spooky burned a LOT of "buy now and think later" buyers with Halloween/Ultraman (especially) code and not-fun-ness, and I know a number personally who are done with the janky playfield engineering (the acrylic/petg ball release shown on Looney Tunes does not portend a change). But I think once Looney Tunes/TCM start trickling out, if they're solid, sales could pick up.

    Quoted from greenhornet:

    PF still not in production.

Maybe not shipping yet, but some are being made, I believe.

    Agree with Pink Floyd.
    Also Kill Bill,
    John Wick,
and the never mentioned Earthworm Jim!

    #50 6 months ago

My top themes from the poll would be Matrix, Beavis & Butthead, Beastie Boys, Mad Max, Van Halen, Ozzy, BeetleJuice, Eminem, Die Hard, & BTTF. Not on the poll but I'd like to see happen are Pink Floyd, Megadeth, Motley Crue, Reservoir Dogs, Caddyshack, Nightmare Before Christmas, Man with No Name Trilogy, Planet Of The Apes, Smokey & the Bandit, Predator, Rambo, The Punisher, Evil Dead, John Wick, Ghost Rider, Blues Brothers , Friday the 13th, and Blade Runner.
