Being new to repair and restoration, I'd appreciate some guidance about repainting the white board from my Funhouse backbox. I will remove the board, tape off the light fixtures and then proceed. . . Can anyone tell me what steps to take (priming, sanding?) and what type of paint is best to use?

Thanks,

Harold

As clarification: The shadows below left and right of each backbox lightbulb are from overhead lights. The marks above each light are on the paint and probably came from the heat of the lights.

I like to suggest using magic sponge eraser.. my board was very dirty too (same heat burn marks, like you have).

I scrubbed the whole thing clean with these sponges and the thing is once again clean and bright white. I had no need to repaint it.

Thank you both. If I end up painting, is it easier for me to use a water based paint rather than oil, and if so, what type of water based paint?

It looks clean. Pull the bulbs, scrub it with a Magic Eraser and be done. Or with a cloth with Mean Green. Use a old white T-shirt, not paper towels.

Yes like everyone said try cleaning it first way way easier for sure before repainting it

Magic eraser worked perfectly. No repainting needed. Thanks so much to everyone who helped.
